LBRDI Chapter 73

Knowledge is Power

Large dragons are used to having afternoon tea, usually at 3 pm. Preparing some food to cushion the stomach was mainly to appease the stomachs of large dragons, they do get hungry easily after all.

Not to mention the developing dragon cubs are hungry every few hours. That’s why small snacks are prepared for the cubs a few hours before dinner.

Otherwise, cubs like the spotted dragon might actually be hungry enough to eat the table.

It was three o’clock, which meant that He Xing’s parents could come over at any minute.

Shen Mian pondered for a few seconds and simply planned to do what he had to do- his live broadcast on the StarNet could be found with a casual search, and if He Xing’s parents cared a little bit, they should know what kind of personality he had by now. It’s unnecessary and particularly embarrassing to pretend.

Shen Mian looked calm. “Can you let them into the mock battle arena to play?”

He Xing entered the password to open the simulated battlefield. “Sure, I’ll go in first and change the mode. We can take the little dragon cubs in for a while, but it’s actually fine as long as we don’t touch the heat weapon.”

The black door of the mock battle arena slowly opened. The mock arena tailor-made for He Xing was so large that it could fit the dragon form of He Xing.

Shen Mian nodded and led Qin Yi over to the cubs.

Eyeing He Xing, Gian was keenly aware of what was going on and quickly stood up. He also stuck out his little short paws to try and pat the non-existent dust on his body to make himself look like a clean and tidy little dragon cub.

Xing Fei had already taken out her own big water bottle and found that it was a pretty little girl, so she secretly hid it behind her back.

Yan Tan had been talking to Lu Yuan in the video call but turned around suddenly after Livia patted him on the back. Discovering that there was a little dragon cub beside the dean that basically maintained their human form and remembering how he had been flapping nonstop, he stretched out his paws to cover his face.

Livia silently turned the quantum computer around so Lu Yuan and Rhein were directly facing the young duke.

Lu Yuan quickly sat upright, keeping his face away from the camera.

Little Rhein, who was sitting in front of the camera, was worried that the new cubs couldn’t see him, and quickly flew up to show that there was a dragon cub in this screen as well.

Shen Mian squatted down to be level with the little dragon cubs. “This is Qin Yi, a…”
Shen Mian fell silent. He suddenly remembered that he didn’t even know Qin Yi’s race.

Fortunately, Qin Yi quickly answered, “I’m a Tidal Dragon under the Devouring Dragon genus. I’m eight years old.”

Shen Mian gently took the little dragon cubs and introduced them one by one to Qin Yi.

Qin Yi was a very educated dragon cub. When Shen Mian spoke, she listened quietly, her hands clasped in front of her. Whoever Shen Mian introduced her to, her eyes fell on whomever, focused and sincere. Only when Shen Mian introduced Xing Fei did Qin Yi’s eyes lit up a bit.

Shen Mian tidied up Xing Fei’s hair. “Then you guys can go play. I’ll go prepare some food.”

Vick hurriedly stopped Shen Mian. “Dean, snacks and drinks have been prepared by the house robots, feel free to play with the dragon cubs.”
With him there, such details certainly wouldn’ slip through the cracks.

Shen Mian nodded at him. “I’ve troubled you.”

With a subtle leap of joy in his eyes, Vick whispered, “His Majesty and Her Highness both have very easygoing personalities. You and the two of them will get along very well.”

Vick recalled the last time he was summoned by His Majesty, the Emperor.

Both the Emperor and Empress were present and had been informed of the Crown Prince’s infestation in the Cat Eye live room.

t/n: I’m gonna refer to Hx’s mother as empress from now on because princess just sounds weird. I’m pretty sure in the previous chapter when they said she was the only princess meant that she is the only female currently in the royal family.

His Majesty, the Emperor, watched the entire live broadcast with relish and commented on his son’s performance with the Empress. “Not bad. Quite good at livening up the atmosphere. Selling it to the parliament for show should have a good effect.”

Her Royal Highness the Empress, “Remember to charge them.”

The Emperor nodded repeatedly. “The entry fee can’t be any lower than those first-class singers and movie stars. It’s quite profitable by this calculation.”

The handsome emperor thought for a moment and asked Vick, who was sitting on one side of the room, “Do you think he can go and carry goods with this eloquence? The industrial goods that our royal family has are not selling.”

Vick, “…This subordinate isn’t quite sure.”

Because of this, Vick’s strongest impression of the Emperor and the Empress was one of easy gentleness.

Shen Mian hadn’t been in contact with royal dragons other than He Xing, but parents who could raise a child with He Xing’s personality shouldn’t be difficult to get along with.
Shen Mian patted Vick’s shoulder. “Thank you.”

Vick decided to go home and hang up this jacket for his collection.

……

He Xing’s mock battle arena was overhauled by a team of professionals every so often, so even though it had been put away for quite a while, the performance was excellent for the price point when running.

As soon as the cubs entered the arena, they were stunned by the facilities inside- there was actually a small starship parked inside the simulated battle arena, larger than most private starships, with lines so sharp and simple that they emitted an eerie chill.

The names of other battleships were engraved on the starship.
It was a battleship, a meritorious ship that had sunk two battleships.

Shen Mian stepped forward. His palm pressed against the cold, hard shell of the starship.
This battleship may have once belonged to He Xing.

Lu Yuan, who could only look through the video, grabbed the quantum computer screen, “I can’t wait to see” written in both of his eyes. “A starship! You can park a starship inside!”

He Xing patted the starship. “Do you like it?”

Lu Yuan nodded frantically.

He Xing smiled. “It’s broken and can’t be driven.”

Lu Yuan didn’t care if it was broken or not. He was so excited that his little short tail wagged very fast. “I want to buy it! Uncle He, wait for me to grow up, I’ll buy it when I have enough money! You have to give me a discount, I’ll fix it in the future!”

Shen Mian withdrew his hand. The scars on the starship’s outer shell made his palm slightly ache. “This is a decommissioned warship. It’s already been broken to this state and shouldn’t be able to be repaired. Even if it’s been repaired, it cannot be driven out as a civilian ship.”

Instead of being disappointed, Lu Yuan exclaimed, “It must’ve been amazing then.”

Xing Fei said, “This should be a meritorious ship. Is Uncle He is the captain of this ship?”

Gian nodded. “I read that battleships engrave the names of sunken starships on their shells.”

He Xing smiled a bit. “Mhm, it used to be.”

Qin Yi thought for a bit. “This battleship is called Glory, right? Having fought in three battles and sunk two starships, it was later honourably decommissioned and was kept here by His Highness.”

Lu Yuan cast an adoring look at Qin Yi- amazing!

Rhein, “Wow-”
Although I don’t understand, it feels super amazing!

He Xing patted the little duke’s shoulder. “It is indeed called Glory, but it participated in four battles. Besides, just call me uncle. Alright, what do you guys want to play now?”

The little dragon cubs looked at each other. Lu Yuan was forever watching the fun but it wasn’t a big deal. “Battle! Battle of the little dragon cubs!”

Little Rhein, in the other screen, disappeared for a moment, soon reappearing with a small stool and a large bottle of fruit juice in his arms. He sipped on it while watching the other dragon cubs jeer.

Livia was already good at combat and battling was a mandatory part of his combat class. He had been idle for a while and was eager to move around.

Gian felt that Lu Yuan was so excited he was about to fall out of the screen. He kind of wanted to play but was hesitant- would the new little sister think they were too violent?

Yan Tan’s rejection of combat had faded after his reconciliation with his father, and after learning on his own for a while, he was willing to put it into practice, fluttering his wings. “I want to play!”

Qin Yi was eager to try. “Then count me in too.”

The new little girl spoke up, so the little dragon cub, who had been hesitant, joined immediately.

Xing Fei lacked interest and wasn’t going to play with the violent dragon cubs. She took a fancy to the laser armoured car parked off to the side and took a manual from it to look through.
Shen Mian simply accompanied her, breaking down some of the more complex sentences for the little dragon cub.

Qin Yi also knew that Xing Fei’s body was weaker and was not at all disappointed to find out that little Xing Fei didn’t want to play with them, but was happy for a while- after all, she could beat up all the little dragon cubs.

Shen Mian made a few temporary name strips and let the little dragon cubs draw lots to divide the teams.

Gian and Qin Yi were grouped together, and Livia and Yan Tan together.

After the dragon cubs drew lots, Qin Yi took on Yan Tan and Livia took on Gian.

Because the weapons in the arena were real, the cubs couldn’t use them. If they wanted a bit more excitement, they’ll have to go into battle in dragon form.

Qin Yi’s dragon form was covered in white scales, with even thicker scales growing at the junction of her limbs and body, like armour. She was topped with a pair of white horns and had beautiful lines all over her body.
Tidal dragons could exceed 95% of all dragons if they flew at full speed.

Tidal dragons are very tough dragons. When the mythical dragons were being classified, the classification of tidal dragons made scholars argue for more than two months. In the end, since tidal dragons were mostly lazy and did not fit the common “warlike and aggressive” definition of the mythical genus, they ended up being assigned to the more biologically consistent devouring dragon genus.

At the beginning of the battle, Yan Tan was barely able to draw even with Qin Yi by virtue of his mythical genus’s strength, but gradually, little Yan Tan, who couldn’t keep up with the exercise, began to lose strength. He couldn’t unleash the poisonous mist again, so he quickly fell into a disadvantage.

Qin Yi was an exceptionally graceful dragon cub. When she found that Yan Tan didn’t use his racial instincts, she didn’t either. They simply fought each other. However, little Yan Tan was a little dragon cub who went for the literary style, with average fighting skills and average stamina, and when he couldn’t dodge, he was solidly knocked on the head by Qin Yi.

The little black dragon burst into tears, crying and surrendered.

Qin Yi didn’t expect to directly punch Yan Tan and quickly stretched out her fleshy paws to rub the little black dragon. “Sorry, sorry.”

Yan Tan sniffed. “No worries.”

The black cub walked down with his head covered, intent on finding a way to aggrieve Livia for a moment, and found that Livia had actually tied with the naturally strong gemstone dragon by skill. The two cubs circled around in a roundabout way, never getting a winner.

Yan Tan turned around and hugged He Xing’s calves, closing himself.

He Xing scooped him up. “What’s wrong?”

Yan Tan was extremely wronged. “I can’t beat a dragon cub smaller than me.”
He was two years older than Qin Yi! And was also a dragon cub of the mythical genus – he couldn’t believe he lost.

Qin Yi won the fight easily. She stood up and patted herself on the back, gathering her wings and headed towards Xing Fei.

Xing Fei had finished studying the instructions for the laser armour car and tugged on He Xing’s pants, asking, “Uncle, can I drive this?”

This laser armoured vehicle was not lethal and was perfectly drivable.
He Xing asked, “Do you know how to drive it?”

Xing Fei patted the armoured car. “I can try.”

He Xing opened the laser armour car’s door. Xing Fei took Qin Yi’s paw and invited the little dragon cub to go in with her. “Do you want to go in and play?”

Qin Yi’s eyes shone brightly. “May I?”

Xing Fei nodded, and with the help of He Xing, the two dragon cubs managed to get inside the armoured car.

Xing Fei studied the intricate keyboard and operating handles for a moment, pushed a few buttons and the laser-armour vehicle jolted to life.

Passing by the still-fighting Livia and Gian, both dragon cubs stopped and gawked as the behemoth drove by.

Lu Yuan shouted, “Xing Fei, you are amazing, you can actually drive such a big car!”

Rhein, “Now they can’t beat Xing Fei!”

Shen Mian asked Lu Yuan, “Do you know what this is called?”

Lu Yuan thought the dean had asked him what kind of car Xing Fei was driving, scratched his face and shook his head. “I don’t know.”

Shen Mian, “This is called ‘knowledge is power’.”

It dawned on Gian. “It’s that although Xing Fei can’t beat us, she can drive a car and beat us, right?”

Shen Mian nodded, “Correct.”

He Xing murmured, “I don’t feel like that’s the right way to explain it…”

  1. [Tidal dragons] ended up being assigned to the more biologically consistent devouring dragon genus.

Hmmmmmmmmm… It seems like some of the dragon genera have similar names. Mythical dragon species have “mythical” names, gem dragon species have color names, like yellow-green and blue… Maybe devouring dragon species are named after powerful forces of nature? I was thinking that the hurricane dragon that showed up earlier might be a devouring dragon, and hurricane and tidal both fit that pattern.

Still not sure what forest dragons are though. I thought maybe dream, but they’re “medium-size,” and the largest species of dream dragon is fairy, which is small. Not powerful/noteworthy enough to be mythical, to big to be dream, not watery/fiery/rocky enough for aquatic, flame, or gem. Devouring or velvet?
