LBRDI Chapter 72

Exchange of Experience

Bright red flowers fell into Shen Mian’s pocket, the strong fragrance filling his sense of smell.

The beautiful and powerful little duke was actually a dragon cub that liked to hide anything she liked. In her own home, Qin Yi was like a tree planted in a flowerpot; its growing branches, leaves and roots always trying to break through the obstacles.

Shen Mian was a little entranced by Qin Yi. Qin Yi easily reminded him of Xing Fei. The little girl was weak at first and was also like this, unable to do anything she wanted. Fortunately, there were books. Xing Fei hadn’t made friends with girls around the same age when she came to the centre, so if Qin Yi went, she should get along well with Xing Fei.

The little dragon cub, who yearned for freedom from the bottom of her soul, had a similar romance.

He took out his quantum computer and sent a message to He Xing, almost immediately receiving a reply.

Qin Yi found that the gaze of the expressionless Dean in front of her suddenly softened.

Shen Mian put away the quantum computer and asked, “Do you want to meet Xing Fei now? She is in another residential area right now and it only takes half an hour to get there by suspension car.”

Qin Yi’s eyes lit up. “Can I?”

Shen Mian, “Only if you want to.”

So ten minutes later, Shen Mian took Qin Yi and Livia to find Ke Yu.

Ke Yu was surprised. “Mr Sika approved of your flower arranging class?”

Shen Mian’s expression didn’t change. “Yes, after mine and Livia’s persuasion, Mr Sika also realised that his attitude was too tough, so he has left.”

Ke Yu was relieved. “That’s good, that’s good. Qin Yi’s grandfather is still angry. It’s good that Mr Sika is gone to save them from arguing again.”
They’ve already argued and it wasn’t his little dragon cub who was being wronged.

Ke Yu looked at his gentle and quiet little daughter and became happy again. “From now on, you can learn whatever you want to.”

Qin Yi smiled.

Shen Mian, very ‘lowkey and modestly’ said, “After talking with the Duke, I found out that she also likes to read poetry and draw. My family has two little dragon cubs who are quite good at this.”

Ke Yu immediately nodded, “Yes, yes! Qin Yi loves a collection of books and has read it many times. It’s a pity that I’m a researcher, dealing with all that experimental data every day makes me unable to understand the poems and paintings, otherwise, I would have something in common with Qin Yi.”

Speaking of the collection, Ke Yu suddenly remembered why the name Xing Fei sounded so familiar- wasn’t Xing Fei the author of Qin Yi’s favourite poem? So this Dean is actually Xing Fei’s Dean! Qin Yi also said at the time that that centre had two dragon cubs that were selected at the same time.

There were only thirty total slots for all the Empire’s little dragon cub’s magazine submissions of short essays and poems and one centre took two!

Qin Yi’s tone was full of longing. “I heard from the Dean that Xing Fei has a collection of poems that are just as good as “Cold Winter”, as well as many excerpts and diaries. It would be great if I could take a look.”

Ke Yu looked at the yearning expression on his daughter’s face and almost said, “Then go with Dean Shen to meet her.”
The words were held back by Ke Yu before they could be said.
He had never met Shen Mian before and didn’t really understand his personality. Even if he knew that the other party was the Dean of some childcare centre, he couldn’t trust the other party to take his little girl out to play.

As a father, Ke Yu was still wary of this.

Shen Mian slowly said his secret weapon. “It just so happens that His Imperial Highness the Crown Prince is here today. We can go to Fei Yun City to see the new scenery. Qin Yi also had a bit of a scare today and it will be good for her to go and relax.”

His Highness the Crown Prince?
Ke Yu looked at Shen Mian in surprise. “You are?”

Although Ke Yu was the Duke’s father, due to his work, Ke Yu had little to no interaction with the royal family and other nobles who were mostly in the military. He awkwardly waited on the sidelines at any occasional gatherings and did not interact with the other nobles.

Qin Yi knew that her father was addicted to scientific research and he had very little social interaction. He only went on the internet to go on academic websites and entertainment was practically nil, so he didn’t recognise Shen Mian.

Qin Yi interjected at the right time. “Dean Shen is a close friend of His Royal Highness and will often live broadcast on Cat Eye.”

t/n: a close friend hehe ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Shen Mian then said, “You should also accompany Qin Yi.”
It would be hard for Ke Yu to interrupt when the little girls got together anyway. If he and He Xing want to talk about other things, they could drive Ke Yu away. Qin Yi could go to the mock battlefield if she wanted, or go to draw and read poetry.

When Ke Yu met Qin Yi’s gaze, the little girl’s eyes were filled with anticipation and after discovering Ke Yu’s line of sight, the little girl quickly lowered her head and pretended not to care.

Ke Yu’s heart was sore and soft. He crouched down to hug his young daughter. “Does Qin Yi want to go?”

Qin Yi lowered her head.

Ke Yu smiled. “Then let’s go together. Oh yeah, I’ll pack a little something for Qin Yi.”
He packed a bag of snacks, cups and Qin Yi’s toys and gave the bag to the bodyguard to carry with him.

Shen Mian understood this old father’s worries very well and nodded to Ke Yu, leading Livia out of the manor.

He Xing’s suspension car was waiting outside the manor. A big adult dragon in a light grey coat sat on the front hood of the car, holding the quantum computer in his hands, not playing, but staring at a specific point in the void.

He Xing was used to being in the army and didn’t have the habit of playing on the quantum computer whenever he was free.

Fortunately, this was the Duke’s manor’s courtyard and there were hardly any other dragons coming and going, or else the dazed Crown Prince might’ve had to face a large wave of nobles coming to greet him.

Hearing the sound of the manor’s front door opening, He Xing saw Shen Mian and Livia first. Smiling as he stood up to greet them, he naturally stood beside Shen Mian and placed one hand on Livia’s shoulder.

Ke Yu saw that it was the real crown prince and put his mind at ease. The connection between the royal family and the nobility was actually very close. The Seasonal Flowers family, as a duke, had been one of the royal family’s most favoured confidants, only to fade away as the current duke, Qin Yi, was too young and he and Qin Yi’s grandfather had no connection with the military at all.

From Ke Yu’s point of view, he would love to maintain the dignity that belonged to the Duke when his wife was alive, but he didn’t have that ability and his daughter’s character was also soft. He could vaguely feel that the family had actually faded a bit out of the Golden Capital’s noble circle. If his daughter could resume the relationship with the royal family, it would definitely be a good thing for the entire family.

Although he thought about it clearly, Ke Yu was still very uneasy when he faced He Xing. “Your Highness.”

He Xing was well-mannered. “Good afternoon Mr Ke Yu. Are you coming with us to visit Fei Yun City?”

“No, no, I have something else going on at the moment.” Ke Yu quickly denied. He had only wanted to come out to see if it was really the Crown Prince, and if it was, he would be able to put his mind at ease.

Fei Yun City was the territory of the Royal family. The only regular visitors were the mythical genus dragon cubs and the childcare teachers. The adult mythical genus dragons were also not allowed to come and go as they please. Dean Shen had invited Qin Yi. Him, as an adult dragon, going was a bit scandalous.

Shen Mian didn’t expose this botched excuse and instead took the initiative to say, “Then the bodyguard stays.”

Ke Yu appreciated Shen Mian’s understanding and thanked him repeatedly, and finally instructed Qin Yi, “When you go to Fei Yun City, listen to His Highness, don’t run around.”

Qin Yi nodded.

Only then did Ke Yu return to the Duke’s manor one step at a time.

As soon as Ke Yu’s figure disappeared, Qin Yi held Shen Mian’s right hand, her eyes shining brightly. “Dean!”

Shen Mian leaned over and picked her up. “Let’s go.”

He Xing opened the car door and waited for them all to get in, asking curiously as he started the suspension car, “Can I know how my Dean managed to abduct a little dragon cub after the lesson?”

Shen Mian corrected him, “It’s Livia who went to tutor.”

He Xing was very obedient and immediately revised the wording. “My dean can abduct a little dragon cub even though you were sending Livia to his tutoring lesson, how did you do that? Can you teach me? I’ll kidnap a few little nieces and nephews for you to play with over the holidays.”

Shen Mian, “It’s because all dragon cubs like me.”

The abducted little dragon cub Qin Yi, “…”

Livia, “…”

The bodyguard in the furthest row acting like he was a transparent dragon, “…”
For some reason, he had the thought of picking up the little duke, crashing through the window and running back to the manor.

……

Xing Fei and the others had already been picked up by Vick, taken into Fei Yun City and were wandering around He Xing’s residence.

This palace was considered one of the most mysterious areas of Fei Yun City. Since He Xing rarely left the base, this palace was mostly locked, which meant that it was only this year that it welcomed back its true owner.

Even Yan Tan had never even been in here, taking Gian and Xing Fei and slowly walking on the ground. They relied on the fact that they were little dragon cubs and begged for a quantum computer from Vick. They called Lu Yuan and Rhein to live broadcast “Uncle He’s” huge house.

Vick followed behind the cubs. He received a message from He Xing when he went to pick up the cubs. The instructions were simple, just watch over the safety of the cubs, and if the cubs had any requests, as long as it wasn’t too troublesome, it could be satisfied.

Two light screens popped up on Vick’s quantum computer, one with Lu Yuan’s large face and one with Rhein, who only took up a tiny chunk of the screen.

Rhein felt like he was going to suffocate. It took a while of sitting in front of the screen to endure the oppressive feeling of that magnificent building. “Uncle He’s house is huge! Is it because Uncle He becomes very big when he turns into a dragon?”

Lu Yuan’s face was about to touch the camera, taking up the entire screen. “Is that a mock battle arena? It’s nothing like the one in the centre!”

Yan Tan grabbed the quantum computer and flew to the mock battle arena, explaining as he flew, “The one we have is for dragon cubs. This one is for military use. My family also has one. Only my dad, uncle and aunt use it.”

When Shen Mian got there, the dragon cubs were picking at the door of the mock battle arena. Xing Fei was fine, but Lu Yuan’s eyes were literally glowing and he wanted to squeeze out of the screen to be with his buddies.

Gian obediently sat at the door and waited for the Dean and uncle to come so they could take them in.

Vick stood behind the dragon cubs with a difficult expression: He knew the cubs wanted to go in, but military mock battle arenas were deadly and dangerous to the little dragon cubs and there were three of them here. He was worried that he wouldn’t be able to watch over them.

As soon as Shen Mian came back, Vick was relieved and even greeted him. “Dean, the dragon cubs want to enter the mock battle arena to play, but the military’s mock battle arena is custom-made based on His Highness’s comprehensive data and there are certain risks towards the cubs.”

He Xing, who was directly ignored by Vick: ?

He quickly pulled Shen Mian back. “I know, I know. You’ve worked hard. As these two days are vacation, hurry back and rest. By the way, Yan Huan wants to invite you to dinner to thank you for helping him change the document for his vacation application last time.”

t/n: for those who don’t remember, Yan Huan has a crush on Vick ehehehehe forgot which chapter lmao. HX the wingman.

Vick faced the prince, who looked like he was defending against a thief and blankly reported, “Your Highness, half an hour ago His Majesty asked me to convey to you that he wishes to come with Her Highness later to have afternoon tea.”

Shen Mian held Qin Yi’s hand a little tighter.
The royal family only had one princess which was He Xing’s mother.

t/n: I’m confused as to why she is a princess. The original text says princess so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

He Xing was baffled. “What’s the point of coming to eat at this hour of the day?”

Vick, “He said he wanted to share his educational experience with Dean Shen.”

Shen Mian, “Educational experience?”

Vick explained, “It’s like this, His Majesty is also the dean of the mythical genus childcare centre.”

  1. Usually if a person have the rank Duke ,they always refer to her/his Highness because they usually have relationship the current royalty (nieces/aunt/uncle).

  2. As far as I know, HX’s mother is called princess probably because she isn’t part of the royal lineage and cannot be given the title Queen. For example, if the King has a daughter and the daughter inherited the throne, she will be called the Queen. However, if she got married, then her husband won’t be called a King but can only be give the title Prince. I think the England’s loyalty is the same way. Correct me if I’m wrong🙂.
