LBRDI Chapter 62

Prepare your heart

Confession

Xing Fei tilted her face up, smiling with her eyebrows curved. “Brother Yan Tan is gentle and strong, can protect his friends and draws beautiful pictures. If only I had met Brother Yan Tan earlier, you would have sung me a song when I was alone, wouldn’t you?”

Yan Tan’s first growth stage had almost passed and he had gradually started to grow taller. He was originally only a little shorter than Xing Fei and had grown taller than her after a few months with adequate nutrition. Now that he was in his human form, he was a little taller than Xing Fei.

Who could resist their little sister jumping on them and hugging them, saying, “I like you the most”? And who could resist their lovely little sister looking at them with bright, adoring eyes?

Anyways, Yan Tan couldn’t.
The little dragon cub’s attention was momentarily distracted by Xing Fei’s fancy praise and embarrassedly replied, “Not really, it’s just colouring.”

Xing Fei flicked her tail. “But none of us can do it well except for Brother Yan Tan.”

Seeing Xing Fei coaxing Yan Tan, Gian Lu Yuan and Rhein all relaxed at the same time. The three cubs sadly looked at each other for a moment, then quickly rejoiced- they finally did it!

Shen Mian, who was outside the window, took a step back and prepared to go into his own dorm to pretend that he had never come out. He took a few steps and found that He Xing was still standing there, with his head down, looking as if he was thinking quite deeply.

Shen Mian pulled him by his hand and dragged him straight into the dormitory.

As the door closed, the click of the door lock startled the stunned He Xing.

He raised his head to clarify and before speaking, his throat somehow felt dry and he had to cough under his breath to speak normally. “May I ask the Dean a question?”

Shen Mian sat on a chair and looked at him. “Mn.”

He Xing picked up a chair and sat next to Shen Mian. “The dean said he knows who I have a crush on, so can the all-knowing dean tell me, does the person I like like me?”

“Is he a bit shy?”

Shen Mian: ??

Who’s shy? Shen Mian kind of wanted to throw this bad thing out.

He Xing looked at him expectantly.

Shen Mian endured, barely holding back. “Maybe it’s just that he thinks you need to consider your identity more.”

He Xing was stunned at first, then he slowly smiled. “Really?”

“Is that really true?”

Shen Mian, “…”
Is this dragon stupid?

He Xing coughed a few times, then suddenly stood up, straightened his clothes and solemnly said, “I am He Xing of the mythical genus Gengchen species, male alpha, currently serving as Marshal of the Seventh Legion, as well as the first heir to the imperial throne and I obtained the legal qualifications for marriage six years ago.”

“I am an adult dragon with autonomy and I can be held accountable for every word I say and every action I take.”

He Xing squatted down and tilted his head up to look at Shen Mian. “I like you.”

He looked at Shen Mian’s face, hot emotions stirring inside his heart, but strangely, they weren’t violent. They just rolled up and down and stuck to his chest, softening him from his heart to his eyes.

He uncontrollably repeated it as if he would pour his heart out. “I like you.”

“I want to have a chance of spending the rest of my life with you.”

“Can I pursue you?”

Shen Mian slightly turned his face sideways. “That’s quite a coincidence.”

He Xing looked at him.

Shen Mian, “I also like you.”

He beckoned He Xing over.

He Xing walked a few steps closer. Shen Mian stood up and grabbed his collar, leaning in close, so close that even their breaths mingled. He Xing could see his drooping eyelashes.

He Xing thought: Where is Shen Mian looking?

After studying He Xing’s face for a few seconds, Shen Mian really didn’t know how to go down on his mouth and after he fell silent, he asked, “Do you know how to kiss?”

He Xing, “…I don’t.”
Never having been in love before, He Xing certainly didn’t know. Growing up, he only split into the secondary gender when he was about to graduate from high school. He then entered the military, bouncing from battlefield to battlefield and drill to drill.

Shen Mian released him. “Then forget it.”
Dean Shen had never been in love either and had never paid attention to how those young lovers fell in love, and in front of the beautiful face of his new lover, he hesitated for a while, not knowing how to get closer.

Do all those little couples just go straight for the mouth?

Instead, He Xing smiled, lowered his head against him and whispered, “Then let’s study it together.”

Shen Mian’s face was paralysed: It’s back to R18.

……

Yan Tan had booked an evening ticket so he could stay longer at the centre and meet his father a little later.

Yan Zhou was unexpectedly wise and only arrived at the centre in the afternoon.

Yan Tan was cradled in Shen Mian’s arms, his paws clinging tightly to them. Both of his wings drooped down listlessly.

The other dragon cubs were also very reluctant.

Lu Yuan, “Make sure you call us when you get back, and don’t forget about us just because you have Livia.”

Gian, “Remember to come back and visit us during the long vacation.”

Xing Fei, “We’ll send something over, so you must receive it. We’ll be able to call after Brother finishes his exams.”

Rhein held back for a long time. “I’ll keep the painting we drew together, you must miss us.”

The hardened little black dragon cub became teary from what they had said. “I’ll definitely remember and you guys must also miss me too, wait for me to come back. We made a promise, we’re going to enter the same university.”

Shen Mian patted the back of the large coquettish baby and the little crybaby Yan Tan anxiously leaned in closer to Shen Mian. “Dean, I like you. You have to remember that you raised a little black dragon cub who caught a tree dragon for you.”

Shen Mian, “…Alright.”
You just said that you’d come back during your next vacation, why are you making it seem like we’re parting for good?

After the group of dragon cubs reluctantly bid farewell to him for more than ten minutes, He Xing came up and knocked on the door. “Yan Zhou has arrived.”

Yan Tan was so scared that he fluttered his wings and jumped down from Shen Mian’s arms. “I-I’ll walk by myself.”

He Xing walked over and rubbed the little dragon cub’s head. “Has everything been packed?”

Yan Tan carried a bag on his back with a fire-breathing phosphorus dragon painted on it. “It’s all packed.”
Everything that would be used temporarily was in the bag and the rest of the luggage was already packed into the space button.

He Xing bent down to pick him up. “Your father has a present for you. I hope you like it.”

Shen Mian and the group of little dragon cubs simultaneously recalled the set that Yan Zhou had given to him and deeply doubted if Yan Tan would like it.

Yan Zhou was already waiting outside the centre’s door. The alpha’s figure was tall, but for some reason his expression was hesitant and he kept looking towards the centre until He Xing appeared in his line of sight, holding Yan Tan.

Yan Tan subconsciously grabbed onto He Xing’s clothes. He Xing looked down and smiled at him. “Don’t be afraid, I think this time you’ll like it.”

The little black dragon cub was unsure of what to do and even subconsciously reached out his paws to Shen Mian beside him as he was carried to his father by Uncle He.

Yan Zhou was a little reserved facing the young son he hadn’t seen in a long time, but he bent his knees and crouched down, raising his hand to touch the little dragon cub.

Yan Tan was raised well and was quite a bit taller than he was before he left. Although his eyes seemed to be a little panicked, they were still agile.

Yan Zhou didn’t know what to say for a while. He Xing lightly coughed and Yan Zhou remembered what he had prepared and took out a folded piece of paper from the space button.

“I hired a tutor who taught painting and learned from her for a while.”

Yan Tan’s eyes widened.

Yan Zhou unfolded the drawing paper in his hand. “Painting is a difficult thing, I’m a mediocre student and this is the most satisfying one I’ve ever painted. There’s no way to compare it to yours, but I hope you’ll like it.”

On the paper was a serious drawing of Yan Tan. General Yan really lacked talent in this area. What should have been a lovely, round, simple brushstroke reeked of stiffness.

You could see that he had tried his best.

“Paintings, like written words, are one of the greatest inventions of the dragons. All truths belong to the universe, but civilization belongs to us, and these are part of it, a treasure to be proud of, worthy of being cherished and appreciated.”

Yan Tan lifted his paws to cover his eyes.
It turns out that he never needed an apology, but to hear his father acknowledge the things he loved, to acknowledge that colours have a different value compared to a sharp edge.

Yan Zhou held the drawing paper. “My Yan Tan is an excellent little dragon cub and where Yan Tan excels, dad is much worse than you.”

“I’m very sorry that my understanding is so many years late. Can you forgive me a little this time? Give Dad a chance to correct his mistakes.”

Yan Tan finally couldn’t help but hug Yan Zhou and cry. “I…I’ve never been angry, I just wanted dad to tell me those words…”

Yan Zhou hugged his young son who was bawling in front of him. Whenever there was a disagreement between him and Yan Tan, he had never been this emotional in front of him before.

Yan Zhou remembered that Yan Tan snuggled in his arms like this when he first learnt to walk. The current Yan Tan was still young but had grown into a little hero who would stand up for other dragon cubs in an unfamiliar place.

His dragon cub grew bigger and bigger, but he remained where he was without following him.

Yan Zhou wiped Yan Tan’s tears away. Gradually stabilising his emotions, Yan Tan sniffed. His eyes were still tearful, but his gaze had a hint of a smile.

Yan Tan carefully snuggled against Yan Zhou and listened to his heartbeat.
There were similarities between the father and the dean, but they seemed to be hidden deeper than in the dean.

Yan Zhou picked him up. “Say goodbye to Uncle He, the Dean and the kids, we’ll come back during vacation, okay?”

Yan Tan vigorously nodded. “En.”

He waved to He Xing, Shen Mian and the dragon cubs. “We’ll meet during the holidays!”

Yan Zhou carried Yan Tan into the suspension car and gradually disappeared from the centre’s cubs, Shen Mian and He Xing’s sight.

Lu Yuan wiped his eyes. “I’m so touched. The silly dad has become so mature.”

Gian, who was forced to lend a paw to Lu Yuan, “…”

Xing Fei was a little disgusted with Brother Lu Yuan and Rhein sat on the little girl’s shoulder, looking in the direction of the suspension car’s departure with a little envy. “That’s so nice.”

Lu Yuan held Gian’s paws for a moment and whispered, “Yeah, it’s super nice.”

Shen Mian wrapped his arms around the dragon cubs. “If there’s anything you’d like to say, I’ll listen to it as well.”

Lu Yuan rubbed up against him and looked at He Xing. “Uncle, did you give Yan Tan’s father that idea?”

He Xing rubbed the little spotted dragon. “Yeah. You want to know what the secret for certain success is?”

Lu Yuan’s eyes were bright. “What is it?”

He Xing glanced at Shen Mian. “It’s I love you.”

“So I’ll try the area you’re good at and when I’m in it, I’ll suddenly be able to understand you.”

Lu Yuan scratched his head. “And what if you still don’t understand? Must you go and do your own thing? But what if some just don’t understand that their parents don’t love them?

He Xing, “All intelligent beings are separate individuals, you have to be yourself first and retain your ego to be able to speak of love.”

Lu Yuan thought about it, still confused. “You’re right, Uncle He. But if you’re so great, why are you still single?”

Shen Mian: ???
