LBRDI Chapter 61

Passing by Selling Meng

Bonus ko-fi chapter

The cubs prepared their props with great care – they decorated them with phosphorus powder from Rhein’s wings, mixing it with glue and then pouring it over the spines provided by Gian so that the pretty little spines would shine at night.

These little dragon cubs didn’t have any craft materials like phosphorus glitter, so they had to make do with what they had.

And since Yan Tan was leaving in two days, they’ll have to step it up to make it, for which Rhein even made up with the amount of exercise he would probably do in a year.

The little golden cub was lying on the bed and chewing on the cake, looking exhausted.

Xing Fei fed Rhein water.

“You’ve worked hard, you don’t even have any phosphorus powder left for the plants today.”

Rhein sighed heavily.

After several of the little dragon cubs agreed, Shen Mian also read the script, which was said to be a heroic rescue, but the script was actually completely different from the traditional rescue-

Lansin’s birthday was coming up and Rhein was worried about what gift to give him. The little dragon cub had saved up a few star coins, but the nice birthday gift from the boutique was too expensive for a cub with only pocket money. So Rhein wanted to learn how to paint a portrait of Lansin, which was already done, but he couldn’t match the colours at all.

Rhein rolled over lazily.

“Lu Yuan says that I just need to sit in front of the drawing paper and not move. When the time comes, I’ll act aggrieved, anxious and it’s best to also cry. That way he’ll know.”

Lu Yuan patted his little belly.

“And we’ll do the rest!”

Gian felt under his pillow and pulled out a book titled, “How to Build Your Child’s Self-Confidence”.

“We’re following this book’s guide, so there shouldn’t be any problems.”

Shen Mian, “?”

Dean Shen was a little confused- what was his family’s Gian reading every day?

It was part of a book series called “The Growth History of Parenting”, which he had ordered from the internet to learn how to take care of a dragon cub’s mental health. When he finished reading it, he realised that it was all chicken soup brewed1 from the humans, so he put it aside and didn’t read it much. The last time he sorted the books, they should have been in the library, but Gian must have taken them out.

Xing Fei, “We found a whole set of this type of book and plan to get another one when we’re done with this.”

Shen Mian, “…”

The family’s little dragon cubs are too talented. Originally, Shen Mian was going to borrow a crystal spine from Gian, but now it seems that he may not be needed to comfort Yan Tan and that the dragon cubs had a better way. Shen Mian returned the script to Xing Fei.

“Then…alright, I won’t disturb you any further.”

Shen Mian thought for a bit and crouched down to be level with his dragon cubs, finding praise from his not-so-rich vocabulary.

“Thank you for being so gentle. I’m very honoured.”

Xing Fei’s eyes curved.

“We just want to be more like the Dean.”

……

The little dragon cubs were extremely mobile and with the help of Shen Mian, they finished making the small props in half an hour.

Rhein also regained his composure and spread his own drawing paper on the table, which had thinly sketched lines. It was an uncoloured drawing of Lansin.

Rhein had taken interest classes in drawing when his two fathers had not yet divorced, but like all other classes, his learning was very mediocre and the sketched lines only vaguely resembled Lansin.

The little dragon cub began his preparations.

Lu Yuan was cheering on the side.

“If you rub your eyes, you will look sadder when you lower your head.”

Rhein sniffed and within moments, his eyes were red.

Lu Yuan, “Yes! Just like that.”

The little fatty grabbed Gian and ran outside. The two of them were in charge of attracting Yan Tan, while Xing Fei stayed in the dorm, pretending to give Rhein advice. When Yan Tan arrived, she was responsible for explaining- Rhein might expose them if he spoke.

After running a few steps, Gian ran back and pushed Shen Mian out.

“Dean, you can’t be inside.”

Shen Mian, “Why? I can pretend to give Rhein advice with Xing Fei.”

Lu Yuan ran back to pull Shen Mian’s hand.

“You can’t! There wasn’t any preparation for the dean’s scenes and lines, we’ll be exposed!”

As soon as the two little dragon cubs dragged Shen Mian downstairs, they encountered He Xing who was sitting on the first-floor handrail, still distracted.

Ever since Shen Mian dropped that sentence, He Xing had been struggling to understand the meaning behind it. He wondered what his dean was implying while worrying that he was overthinking it.

But it’s not like Shen Mian had the kind of personality that would make jokes like that.

Lu Yuan handed over his family’s dean to Uncle He.

“Uncle, the dean is temporarily in your hands.”

Shen Mian: ?

He Xing had the big dean given to him and he was a little confused.

“Huh?”

The little dragon cubs ran away, paw in paw, and as they ran, they shouted, “Don’t let the dean enter the dorm!”

He Xing and Shen Mian, “…”

He Xing looked at Shen Mian.

“What are they going to do?”

Shen Mian slowly replied, “Acting out a script that I don’t have a part in.”

He Xing: ?

Marshal He went crazy from curiosity and simply forced himself to put his emotions on the little dragon cubs in order to avoid thinking repeatedly about Shen Mian’s words.

Yan Tan was brought over by Gian and Lu Yuan shortly after and before he could ask the dean and Uncle He why they were here, he was interrupted by Lu Yuan shouting and was brought upstairs.

As soon as the backs of the little dragon cubs disappeared up the stairs, He Xing held Shen Mian.

“Let’s go up.”

He was just trying to hold Shen Mian’s wrist, but Shen Mian happened to reach out to hold the handrail, so He Xing held Shen Mian’s hand.

He Xing subconsciously tightened his grip and before his brain could react, he raised his eyes to look at Shen Mian.

Shen Mian didn’t seem like he wanted to shake him off at all and let him hold it.

“Lu Yuan said that the script didn’t have our part in it.”

He Xing felt that he had suddenly genetically mutated into a cetacean dragon. The right half of his brain shouting, “What does he mean by that? He obviously said he remembered that I was an alpha before, but has he forgotten now?” The left side of the brain methodically and righteously processed Shen Mian’s words and controlled He Xing enough to reply, “Let’s take a peek.”

Shen Mian pondered for a few seconds.

“You’re right.”

The dragon cubs told him not to participate, but he could watch.

He Xing, with only the left half of his brain functioning normally, quietly walked up the stairs with Shen Mian and before they reached the dorms,  they heard the voices of the dragon cubs.

Rhein’s voice distinctly sounded like he was crying. As he was small and much weaker than the other dragon cubs, he sounded particularly heartbreaking.

“I’m so scared. Dad’s birthday is in three days, but I still don’t have a present for him.”

Shen Mian silently thought: Mn, that’s one line. The way he said it sounded like the situation was real.

Then there was a worried voice from Xing Fei.

“Rhein is worried that he won’t be able to make it in time for Uncle Lansin’s birthday. He’s been working on this drawing for a long time, but he really doesn’t know how to colour it. We thought about it and thought it would be better to let Brother Yan Tan colour it. After all, Brother Yan Tan is very good at it.”

Yan Tan hesitated.

“But… isn’t that a little bad? This is, after all, a birthday present from Rhein to Uncle Lansin, so can we do it together?”

Shen Mian, who had read the script: Although the little dragon cubs must have thought about this problem and absolutely got Rhein’s permission, the problem that Yan Tan raised was not written in the script.

Lu Yuan’s brain frantically mediated, “It’s… it’s something we are giving to Uncle Lansin together because we also like Uncle Lansin. Right, Gian, Xing Fei?”

Rhein tried to be louder.

“Right!”

Gian hastily agreed, “Rhein had agreed to let us draw it together beforehand.”

Xing Fei brought the topic back.

“Yeah, so we’ve followed along to figure out what to do, that is, we really don’t have the talent for painting, so we have to turn to Brother Yan Tan.”

Rhein was even louder.

“Right!!”

Shen Mian nodded slightly in his heart.

Dean Shen felt that Lu Yuan’s EQ was a little higher than his and both Gian’s ability to grasp key points and Xing Fei’s logic ensured that they wouldn’t go off-topic.

And Rhein…the kid was a really good actor. Just listening to his voice was contagious and just as he said he should cry, his eyes went red.

Yan Tan, in the dorm, had already thought of a solution.

“Then how about this, we’ll discuss how to colour it together, okay?”

It was as if Rhein had been fed a snack of some sort and his voice was vague.

“Mmmmm okay!”

Yan Tan had a keen eye for colour. The library next door, which was already undergoing interior renovation, was the place where Yan Tan was involved. Many of the colour schemes were negotiated between Yan Tan and the interior designer.

In addition, Yan Tan had a deep impression of the beautiful and ethereal Lansin. The picture wasn’t complicated so it was easy to colour.

Shen Mian and He Xing listened to the colouring tutorial in silence for about half an hour, during which He Xing was basically in a half-intelligent working state, so he didn’t say anything.

In the dorm, Rhein’s painting was finally finished and all that was left to do was to wait for it to dry.

Rhein held out the gift, his voice shy.

“Thank you, Yan Tan. This is for you.”

Shen Ming had seen the finished gems. They were the crystal spines that naturally shed from Gian’s tail and, using clear glue, the glittering elven dragon’s phosphorus powder gathered in the crevices of the spines to form tiny rivers that glistened when placed in the dark.

The gem dragon’s crystal spines were beautiful and the elven dragon’s phosphorus powder was just as beautiful. The two together were gloriously beautiful without even the need for retouching.

Yan Tan, “So pretty… they look like small gem mountains.”

The golden river that seemed to flow under the light was particularly eye-catching and the crystal spines were like jagged and unreachable cliffs.

He was a little confused.

“Then why not give this to Uncle Lansin? This was already done and it has Rhein’s phosphorus powder on it. It’s so beautiful, Uncle Lansin will love it.”

Shen Mian thought internally: The car overturned2.
He took a slight step forward to see what was going on inside.

Gian, Lu Yuan and Xing Fei: “!!!”

Oh no!

Rhein was confused and subconsciously looked at the playwright: Yeah, why didn’t we?

Lu Yuan, whose brain was spinning faster than planets hitting planets, “…”

Gian who has always been good at getting to the point, “…”

The two little dragon cubs, brains went blank, with only a few words: Yeah, why didn’t we?

Of course, it’s because that’s how the script was written!

Xing Fei was silent for a moment, but suddenly threw her arms wide open and rushed over.

“I like Brother Yan Tan the most!”

When you don’t know how to answer the other’s question, just sell meng.

The dean said that this is called passing by selling meng.

I’m on par with the dean today as well!

sauced

  1. Essentially, I think that part just means that they reused/copied the humans.
  2. 翻车了 fān chē le – basically means when a professional messes up.

  2. This chapter was a mix of too many “aww” and “LMAO” moments xDDDD too good :’D thank you~
I think I dreamt of this story today, although I only remember what happened vaguely. Sth about Shen Mian finding out some personnel had been accepting bribes or sth, and for some reason he was really shocked (emphasis on “for some reason” cause I mean, what could shock Shen Mian XD). So He Xing hugged and comforted him, and that’s when Shen Mian said “it’ll be alright once you give me a kiss”.
    …….
Both He Xing’s and my reaction: “o__o //////” xD and then I don’t remember what happened afterwards! (╯°□°)╯︵┴─┴ XDDDD
