LBRDI Chapter 48

Rhein

After Shen Mian read through all of Rhein’s report card, all of the subjects for several semesters flew past the passing line, neither too high nor too low, and the average curve of the grades was unbelievably stable.

At the bottom of the report card was a message from the class teacher, which is filled out every semester in accordance with the dragon cub’s performance on the final exam:

Rhein is a gentle and quiet cub who is always considerate to teachers and classmates and has steady grades. He has a great talent for gardening and loves gardening from the bottom of his heart. He is always keeping the garden corner and flower garden lush and beautiful.

Shen Mian flipped backwards. The first few comments raised a little bit of expectation for Rhein’s performance and then began to praise Rhein’s talent in farming.

Shen Mian, “…”
The teacher may have tried, but it was no use, because all of Rhein’s scores hovered around the passing line, whether it was a midterm or a quiz.

Shen Mian put his hands against his jaw in contemplation.

The cub, Rhein, on file perfectly inherited Lansin’s gentle and delicate appearance, completely in line with Shen Mian’s impression of two “elves” as a human.  The eyes looking into the camera were a translucent galaxy blue. Most elven dragons have beautiful appearances whether they are an alpha, beta or omega. They all have a beautiful genderless face.

The face of an angel.
He didn’t know exactly what kind of personality this child had.

Shen Mian pulled up the report cards of the centre’s cubs.

He had the normal curve wrecker’s report cards: Gian and Xing Fei, no matter how difficult the test paper was, had beautiful near-perfect scores.

School tyrant’s report card: Yan Tan took a few exams here and his grades fluctuated with the difficulty of the papers. He basically got excellent results.

Normal flunkie’s report card: His grades before transferring to this school were very low, only passing a few subjects, the worst grade being a 30 in writing and the best grade being an 80 in basic geography.

After Lu Yuan transferred to Qiming Childcare Centre, he advanced to a scholar1, maintaining an average score of 80 to 100.

In comparison, Rhein’s report card was even more amazing.

Shen Mian originally wanted to analyze the data based on Rhein’s report card, but now that he’d read it, he realised that it wasn’t necessary – the grades in all subjects were similar.

The quantum computer jumped back to the function interface. Shen Mian’s finger paused when skimming through the address book, it was exactly 10:30. Usually he would’ve almost fallen asleep. After all, Water Star had always had long days and short nights, past ten o’clock in Mercury is already the silent time. Water Star was already silent after ten o’clock.

Shen Mian touched the faded outer shell of the quantum computer and just took out and opened a textbook when the small and old quantum computer suddenly buzzed and vibrated twice.

He Xing sent a message.

He Xing: I see you’re online, haven’t you rested yet?

Shen Mian replied: No.

He Xing had just returned from a banquet in Geng Chen, fleeing from greeting the hush of uncles and aunts. Originally, he wasn’t going to send a message to disturb Shen Mian. He logged on to the chat app to pass time and in the background, he found that Shen Mian’s account avatar was lit.

He Xing’s desire to see someone was stirring: What’s wrong?

Shen Mian replied to him: Looking at the new dragon cub’s report card.

He Xing: A new dragon cub at the end of the semester? By the way, is it convenient for you to turn on your video? I want to show you something.

Shen Mian’s grip on the quantum computer suddenly tightened and after a while, replied: Mn.

A blue call request popped up immediately and Shen Mian chose to connect. The light screen of his brain extended and He Xing, in black pyjamas, smiled at him.

“Good evening.”

Shen Mian spun his pen a few times.

“What is it?”

He Xing turned around and carried three beautiful bags, pulling out beautifully painted gift boxes inside, filled with various snacks from the human civilization.

“Um…I passed by a token shop selling these gift packs on my way back today. They said it was the most popular snack for humans, so I bought it and will send it to you tomorrow.”

Humans and dragons have established diplomatic ties for many years, but there has been relatively little material exchange – the dragons have been in constant civil strife, so diplomacy has slacked off a bit. Secondly, the distance between the two civilizations was relatively far. Even if you were to go to the human civilization from Water Star, the flight with the most space jumps would take more than two days and the lowest ticket price would be more than five thousand star coins.

At present, neither civilization had any policy on commercial exchanges, so what they sold to each other were usually highly profitable or particularly popular products, such as sweet white products with large yields, good taste, long shelf life and net popularity.

He Xing coughed lightly, adding a special line to prevent Shen Mian from refusing, “You can also give the dragon cubs a taste too.”

Shen Mian’s gaze fell on the box. He knew how expensive it was without asking the price and it should be even harder to find in a place like the Imperial Star where humans were rare. The snack packs like the one in He Xing’s hand are packaged as a so-called “human’s food and drink” by the dragons who bought them, to trap people like He Xing, who have more money than others.

The two civilizations were so far apart that the original owner was able to come over from the human civilization at that time because of his special major and he could get a big discount with his graduation certificate, otherwise he would be unemployed upon graduation and wouldn’t even be able to come to the Dragon Empire. But even so, in order to save money on travel costs, Water Star was chosen as the destination because it was the shortest distance.

Shen Mian, “You’ve been away from me for four hours and you’ve started losing your IQ?”

He Xing smiled, “I was afraid that you were homesick.”
Shen Mian never mentioned his family’s affairs and He Xing couldn’t figure out whether he was thinking about them or not. The centre had Gian and Xing Fei, so even if Lu Yuan went back home during the holidays, Shen Mian couldn’t leave, so he returned to the Imperial Star.

Shen Mian, “I’m at home right now.”
Qiming Childcare Centre was transferred to him by the former dean and was his private property. According to the laws of the Dragon Empire, Shen Mian owned housing and property here. He moved here on household registration and became a citizen of the Dragon Empire.

He Xing was quiet for a moment and spoke, “I actually just wanted to… coax you into being happy. It would be nice if you liked it a little bit. Do you like it?”

Shen Mian leaned back in his chair.
He Xing, as the heir to the throne, must reside in the Imperial Capital’s Feiyun City. The entire Feiyun City is an enclosure of the royal family, forbidding other dragons to come and go as they please. There would definitely be no shops there, so He Xing would’ve had to leave Feiyun City to find a shop to buy from.

Shen Mian lowered his gaze.

“It’s quite nice, it’s been a long time since I’ve touched anything from the human side.”

He Xing froze.
Was he hearing things?

According to his Dean Shen’s personality, being quite good equals liking. So that means that if he likes the gift he gave, is it possible to upgrade to liking him if he works harder?
He Xing pressed himself to find a topic to continue warming up his feelings, “It’s very late, get some rest. Don’t you have a live broadcast tomorrow?”

Shen Mian does have to get up early for the live broadcast and before hanging up the call, He Xing called out to him, “By the way, in five days the royal family will have a full live broadcast of the honouring ceremony, I’ll be making an appearance. After the ceremony, I’ll be going back to the military headquarters for formalities, go for a walk around the army and then I’ll just clock in once a month afterwards. I’ll be back in about eleven days.”

Retaining the honorary title and rank of Marshal, he still holds military power, but basically no longer needs to go down the front lines. After they’re internally stable, if they, the dragons of the legendary genus, want to get closer to the people, selling meng is, of course, the only option.

Although a fierce beast selling meng may not look good.

He Xing curled his lips and said, “Reporting the itinerary to our dean.”

……

Rhein arrived early in the morning on the day.

Still in his first growth stage, the dragon cub was very small and sat on Lansin’s shoulder. He was only twenty centimetres tall and looked like a beautiful doll. The appearance of the elven dragon is very similar to their human forms, except for the scales growing on their arms and ankles, the rest of their body was skin.

Rhein was even more beautiful and delicate than the photo showed, with two pairs of translucent wings, one large and one small, that had golden phosphorus powder attached to them. This glittering phosphorus powder was non-toxic, coated with pure wood mana and will only fall off when the wings vibrate at a high speed.

Lu Yuan opened his eyes wide.

“Why is it so small…wu.”

Gian stood on his tiptoes and pinned Lu Yuan’s mouth.

“Shh.”
You’re exposing that you don’t pay attention in class! At almost eight years old, Lu Yuan has already learnt about the dream dragon genus, but the poor elementary school flunkie didn’t listen well in class and didn’t know the general size of dream dragons.

Lu Yuan quietly nodded his head, his eyes indicating: I know.
In his previous childcare centre, the dream dragon cubs took lessons in a different area. He had never seen a dream dragon cub this close before. In fact, Lu Yuan’s spotted dragon race has always had a good relationship with the elven dragons. When civilisation had not yet been established, elven dragons would use matured plants to trade for interesting seeds from the spotted dragons or they would beg the spotted dragons to guard their dwellings.

Shen Mian came forward.

Rhein fluttered his wings and flew up and like a gentleman, he politely bowed towards Shen Mian.

“Hello, my name is Rhein.”

Shen Mian slightly bowed, “Hello, I am the dean of this centre, Shen Mian, and I will also be your teacher in the future.”
Just as polite as Lansin.

Lansin was a little embarrassed.

“I wanted to have him come to class, so I sent him over while I wasn’t working this morning. I’ve disturbed the dean so early.”

Shen Mian, “It’s fine, I’ve already started live broadcasting at this time.”

Lansin hurriedly said, “Then I won’t bother you. Rhein, go inside with the dean. Dad will come to pick you up tonight.”

Rhein waved, “Goodbye, dad.”

He doesn’t look like a child who would cry if their parents left.

Shen Mian reached out his hand and let the little dragon cub land on his hand, introducing him to the centre’s four cubs.

The little golden dragon cub was very polite, “Hello.”

The polite and delicate little dragon cub was immediately welcomed by the other little dragon cubs.

Yan Tan was envious.

“You glow, so beautiful.”
This wasn’t reflecting, it’s really glowing! The elven dragon’s phosphorus powder contains traces of fluorescent substances that was like a flying firefly at night.

Xing Fei nodded, “It’s very beautiful.”

Shen Mian waited for them to talk for a while and said, “There are many plants in the backyard, do you want to see them?”

Rhein’s wings vibrated at a slightly faster rate, shaking off glittering phosphorus powder, which was caught by Lu Yuan’s quick claws and held in front of Gian.

Rhein flew to the backyard of the centre with Shen Mian, the large swaying mana plants immediately attracting Rhein. He flew to the plants, “Dean, can I take care of them with you?”

Shen Mian nodded slightly in his heart: He really was a little dragon cub who liked farming.

“Of course you can.”
Shen Mian stepped forward, “I’m going to make breakfast, will you join me or play with your buddies for a while?”

Rhein looked at the “ecological field” and then at the four neat dragon cubs behind him, “I’ll take care of the plants here.”

Shen Ming wasn’t reluctant to do so and gently pet the cubs as he left, letting them know that he hadn’t raised a new dragon cub and forgotten about the old ones.

Shen Mian has studied the recipes of the elven dragons in advance. The elven dragon was purely vegetarian and had a relatively light taste. Shen Mian went through the recipes and prepared a slightly sweet-tasting fruit and milk soup for Rhein, in addition to chopped fresh raw vegetables, without nutrient solutions.

Because Rhein was in the field tending to the plants, Shen Mian deliberately prepared a bigger portion than the recipe.

Lu Yuan had a large serving of cold vegetables, two meat patties and nutrient solutions.

Both Gian and Yan Tan had a small pot of meat patties with raw vegetables and nutrient solutions.

Xing Fei’s fish soup was stew as thick and white as milk and its fragrance wafted throughout the kitchen and the live room, while a nutrient solution was placed beside the bowl.

[Clear Minded: New tableware! Super small and super cute! Is there a new dragon cub?]

[Crown Prince’s Medal: This tableware should be for dream dragons. They’re tiny and cute.]

[Lotus seed paste: Fruit and milk soup wu wu wu, it looks so delicious.]

[Celery: Hahahahaha, at last, there is a dragon cub that eats less than the dean.]

Shen Mian happened to see the barrage discussing the number of meals, “…”

Dean Shen pretended to not see it and asked the little dragon cubs to come back to eat. As soon as he reached the front of the field, he heard a very subtle singing – The hard work that Dean Shen imagined didn’t happen; the golden dragon cub flew around the field while humming a song and the falling phosphorus powder was quickly absorbed by the plants.

  1. lol I can already see it, this Rhine is going to be a weirdo. I wonder if those sparkles are like super fertilizer. Also, this is something that I’ve just thought of but is “light brain” 光脑 ? If it is, then isn’t 光脑 actually “optical computer”? Thanks for the chapter!

    1. It is. I’ve seen other people use light brain so I just did it too. Would you like me to change it to optical computer?

    2. I’ve always thought that “light brain” didn’t flow very well, simply because 电脑 should then analogously be “electricity brain” which is….lol. It’s up to you since it’s your translation!
