LBRDI Chapter 46

Elven Dragon

Bonus ko-fi chapter

After the live broadcast ended, the sky was already dark.

Shen Mian took the dragon cubs to eat. Except for Lu Yuan, who only ate half his meal because he was determined to lose weight, all the other dragon cubs ate all their meals obediently.

He Xing, who returned to the dormitory, still hadn’t recovered from Lu Yuan’s blow – although he couldn’t see the barrage in the live room, if Lu Yuan thought that, there must be a good portion of the dragon that thought it too.

He never knew before that he had such an image in the minds of his people. Is there salvation?

Shen Mian put down the parcels in his hands. They were the deliveries that he got back during the day, but for some reason, he didn’t open them but kept them on hand and now he’s actually bringing them back.

He Xing looked up and smiled.

“I thought these clothes were bought for Xing Fei.”

Shen Mian’s expression was light, “Personal clothes have already been put in the dormitory.”

Shen Mian unpacked the two deliveries and found that He Xing was still sitting on the chair unmoving.

“Aren’t you coming over?”

He Xing, “Hm?”

Shen Mian took the transparently wrapped men’s clothes from the grey express package.

“Your clothes.”
He accentuated his tone, “Big baby.”

He Xing, who hadn’t been able to lift his spirits all day, was dazed then stood up in his chair, “For me?”
He thought Shen Mian was just paying him a few words, but he never thought he would really buy it for him.

Shen Mian had bought him clothes before so he bought a set in the same size as last time.

“Do you think this is for me?”
Shen Mian irritatedly asked him, casually opened half of the bag and tossed it at He Xing.

He Xing caught the bag, carried it over and opened it.
He had opened many packages before. It wasn’t easy to receive one when he first joined the army but opening any package hadn’t been the same as it was now- not exciting, but just happy.

These two outfits were both aesthetically pleasing to Shen Mian – a light grey shirt and black overcoat and trousers, a cool colour scheme. The fabric quality was excellent, the shirt was soft and close-fitting and the whole set was a classic that couldn’t go wrong with for most occasions.

This whole set was what most dragons had for winter. When they were in their human form, their physical qualities are reduced, but still much higher than the average human, so most dragons only wear clothes with more fleece for winter.

Shen Mian bought seasonal clothes for the cubs, but only winter clothes for He Xing.

The winter on the Imperial Star was longer than that of Water Star. While Water Star was still relatively warm during the day, the Imperial Star had moved into winter. Thick-skinned dragons would also put on thicker clothes. Their human forms are less resistant to cold than their dragon forms, so if they don’t wear more and doze off during work, they may turn back into a dragon.

He Xing touched it several times and carefully folded the clothes.
He probably still had a bit of status in Dean Shen’s heart, otherwise, why would he buy winter clothes for him when it’s far from winter on Water Star?

“I’ll wear these when I leave the day after tomorrow.”

Shen Mian turned his face, “You’ll die from the heat.”
It’s over 20 degrees during the day on Water Star. It’s too hot to wear a jacket, so wearing a coat is insane.

He opened the quantum computer’s recruitment software and posted information on recruiting new childcare teachers.

The income from live broadcasting is now very substantial and with the scattered income from the virtual store, it can fully support the normal operation of the childcare centre. Every month, they would save up a sum of star coins and if Shen Mian was willing to take on the promotion of young dragon products, the income was even more substantial.

He wanted to take advantage of the spring hiring period at the dragon colleges to recruit a nutritionist and two childcare teachers to come in now for a period of internship and start the school year so he can teach directly and regularly.

The three cubs at the centre were now in their second semester of classes. In the next semester, they should be caught up with the classes Lu Yuan was supposed to take, so the new childcare teachers will be able to start a single grade.

The dragon’s semester in the second half of the year usually ends mid-November. The location of the centre was remote, but it was the only centre around and a little farther away, there was a newly built residential area and dragon families were already moving in.

He Xing firmly believed that his family’s dean was firm in speech but soft at heart. He accepted the gift and went back to sit down next to Shen Mian.

“Are you recruiting new childcare teachers?”

If they wanted new cubs to enrol, they must set up their centre and provide enough hardware and teachers to attract parents. Lu Yuan was a cub whose parents had no choice but to choose a centre with a human dean to take care of him.

Shen Mian carefully filled in the requirements for the nutritionist and childcare teachers. The nutritionist didn’t have much, but they were required to have a certification and have experienced more than an internship. A special note for childcare teachers required one childcare teacher’s primary gender to be female and the other one could be any primary or secondary gender.

Xing Fei was growing up every day and there were things she might be more willing to talk to an older sister about. If Xing Fei was willing to tell him, that was fine, but there had to be another option for Xing Fei.

Shen Mian, “There are a lot of dragons living in the residential area to the south and I often run into parents with their dragon cubs when I’m out and about these days. They seem to be at the age where they go to a childcare centre. I’ve been out to mail packages the past few days and also encountered some questions from parents.”

Some of the free-range1 cubs even wander to the centre in groups, climbing on the door to watch Gian and the others playing, full of longing after the gorgeous mock battle arena.

He Xing laid on the table.

“Then I’ll invest.”

Shen Mian held up his fist, “Other dragons are trustees of high schools or universities but you want to be a childcare centre’s trustee?”

He Xing smiled and extended a tentative paw to Dean Shen, “Not a trustee, no need to divide it. Gian and the others are considered my dragon cubs, how can I not raise them?”

Shen Mian said nothing and said after a while, “Do whatever you want.”

The corners of He Xing’s lips turned up slightly: He remembered the last time he said that, the dean rejected it outright.

It is now certain that he has received another boost in his psychological status in Dean Shen, far greater than the red pig in the backyard.

……

When He Xing left, he really wore the clothes Shen Mian bought and because it rained heavily during the night before, the next day was cloudy and the temperature dropped several degrees.

He Xing hung his coat in his arm, bent down and bid farewell to the three reluctant dragon cubs.

Gian dew out a small crystal thorn from his pouch, “I, I haven’t dropped any crystal thorns recently. This was the best looking one in the box, it’s for you… Uncle, remember to come back.”

Lu Yuan held a pack of milk candy and handed it to him with his eyes closed, “I’m giving you a new flavour of the milk candy. After eating my candy, remember to think of us.”

Xing Fei gave He Xing a book, “Come back earlier.”

He Xing took the little girl’s hand and smiled slightly, “I’ll be home as soon as possible.”

It was really strange. With an occupation like his, he had always gone to where he was needed. Having guarded the empire’s farthest borders and being stationed in its most prosperous centre, never had he felt such a strong sense of belonging to any place.

He Xing looked at Shen Mian.

“Where’s Yan Tan? I’m not taking him back yet he isn’t even sending me off?”

Shen Mian, “He’s packing things. When I just came down, I saw him take a big bag and stuffing things in it. It looked like he was moving.”

He Xing was a little touched.

“I never thought that Yan Tan liked me that much.”
Since the library began construction, Yan Tan, in addition to classes and daily mock training, was basically flying around the construction crew to learn how to read the drawings. When there was nothing to do, he talked with the interior designer about the colour scheme. He did not expect that he would actually take time out of his busy schedule to pack gifts.

As the two spoke, the black dragon cub had flown over with a good three or four packages: dark green duffel bags each filled to the brim. Fortunately, little Yan Tan was a cub who could carry a three hundred-heavy catty adult dragon and landed steadily in front of the centre with the large packages.

He Xing quickly refused, “I don’t need so many things…”
Are these things from him sorting out his belongings?

The black dragon cub dropped the packages and blinked in confusion, “Huh? These are for Livia. Uncle, since you are going to the Imperial Star, you can bring these back for me and it also saves on shipping fees. These two packages are food, this one is books from the dean and Xing Fei and this one is Gian’s toys…”

One by one, Yan Tan made it clear that in addition to what he had saved, many of these things were given to him by his younger siblings (Gian, Xing Fei and Lu Yuan).

Finally, he dug around in the smallest bag and found a folder.

“There’s a present for uncle too, this one is for uncle.”

A small folder vs large packages.

He Xing, “…”

A little smile appeared in Shen Mian’s eyes, he lifted his foot and kicked He Xing gently.

“He likes you?”

He Xing coughed and forcibly changed the topic, “How are you going to send it over?”

Yan Tan pointed to the folder.

“There’s an address in it.”

Come on, the folder is also for Livia.
He Xing opened the folder. Before he saw the address, he was attracted by the colourful painting that occupied an entire side of the folder- The colourful painting was painted by Yan Tan and was flattened in the folder, with warm and bright colours. Although it was a cute version of them, every look was very accurate. The four little dragon cubs holding paws around himself and Shen Mian. The smiling and taller one was himself and the expressionless one was Shen Mian.

The cute version of Dean Shen was also cool.

“For Uncle.”
Yan Tan quietly looked up, glancing at He Xing’s expression and then quickly dropped his head, “This is the first time I used this kind of paint, I didn’t paint it too well.”

He Xing gently hugged Yan Tan.

“It’s very pretty. I’ll go back, frame it and put it on my bedside table.”
He’s also a dragon that has a family portrait.

Shen Mian looked at the blue suspension vehicle parked on the road in from of the centre.

“The suspension vehicle you arranged has arrived.”

He Xing stood up and put away the things that Yan Tan had worked so hard to save into his space button.

“You didn’t even ask me to come back early.”

Shen Mian lowered his eyes, avoiding his gaze and briefly told him, “Go early and return early.”

The fierce alpha, His Highness the Crown Prince, felt his fragile heart crack and break.

“I’m leaving.”

He Xing got on the suspension vehicle and the blue vehicle went onto the air track and sped away.

Lu Yuan pushed Yan Tan with his paw pad.

“That painting was so beautiful. It’s nothing like the draft, I couldn’t recognise it because it was coloured in,”

Yan Tan went to Shen Mian’s side and hugged Shen Mian, “Really? That one was for practice. I gave it to Uncle since it was okay. Now that I’m better, I’ll draw another one for the dean.”

Shen Mian, “…”
It seems that He Xing was moved for nothing.

Xing Fei stood for a while, her throat was so dry and itchy that she couldn’t help but cough twice. The three little dragon cubs that were busy surrounding him gently pat Xing Fei’s back.

Shen Mian took out a thermos for Xing Fei. The little girl took the thermos and drank the water. Gian took a packet of tissues from his pouch and Yan Tan and Lu Yuan waited on the side, not a bit impatient.

Because of such a soft younger sister, the three dragon cubs were more attentive than cubs of their age.

The little girl was drinking water. Shen Mian waited for a while, vaguely feeling a sight fixed on him. He frowned slightly, glancing around twice before seeing the owner of the sight, or dragon – the other party was only half his height, with long blonde hair.

They should be an elven dragon under the fantasy dragon genus. Their sub-species is also the largest of the fantasy dragon genus, the smallest fantasy dragon can be as small as the size of your palm.

The dragon was a male and noticed that Shen Mian was looking at him.  He smiled somewhat embarrassedly and walked over to Shen Mian.

The dragon walked up to Shen Mian. He was only a little taller than the cubs, tilting his head up to see Shen Mian and he was very relaxed with this elevation difference, “Hello, my name is Lansin. Are you the childcare teacher of this centre?”

Shen Mian curtsied slightly.

“I am, please come inside to talk.”

He patted Gian and the little gem dragon held his little sister’s hand.

“Then Dean, we’ll head back to the dorm first.”

Shen Mian nodded.
It was a cloudy day with low temperatures, so Xing Fei couldn’t stay outdoors too long as she got cold easily.

He asked Lansin to sit down in the guard room.

“Sorry, it’s rather noisy in there with the construction.”

“That’s all right,” Lansin spoke softly, “Does your centre still accept transfer students?”

The author has something to say:

I forgot to say that everyone can pay attention to the dean’s small actions. His character is relatively restrained, too many facial expressions and mental activity can cause him to collapse, so the emotional drama is portrayed in a more tactful way.

  1. The free-range here is like the free range parenting thing. Basically, they can go where ever they want without their parents. “Free-range parenting is the concept of raising children in the spirit of encouraging them to function independently and with limited parental supervision”.
