LBRDI Chapter 36

“Two Brains”

Bonus ko-fi chapter

Shen Mian made an appointment for Xing Fei’s full checkup on the Starnet and the report came out on the same day they did it.

Xing Fei’s feeble condition was mainly due to the overwhelming effects of the too-rapid dragonization. The doctor re-prescribed the medication to alleviate the negative effects of the dragonization.

However, dragonization is a gene expression that cannot be stopped by technology.

The doctor also specifically reminded Shen Mian that, “According to the report, although the child is not fully dragonized in appearance, the dragon genes have been expressed and she is basically a baby dragon cub. She shouldn’t be raised in the same way as a human child. The diet must be according to the standards of dragon cubs and so you must provide adequate nutrition. There shouldn’t be any problems, right? It’s not certain whether her racial instincts will be awakened, so keep an eye on her.”

Shen Mian was the one raising the dragon cubs, so of course there wouldn’t be any problems.

He has been in this world for more than two months and had completed all the original owner’s professional courses. The cetacean dragon belongs to the Aquatic dragon genus. They are amphibians and need a lot of water every day.

Xingfei indeed was like a little bucket. She carried a small water bottle with her and since he couldn’t drink cold water, Shen Mian took out a large-capacity thermos for Xing Fei from his own space to take around.

After the morning’s lesson, Shen Mian let the cubs out to have some fun. The little girl nestled into a chair in the hallway, writing and drawing in her little notebook.

The barrage in the live room has covered the screen in “a new little girl”. A human dragon hybrid is very rare.

[Crown Prince’s Medal: A halfie, a halfie!!!!! My baby, come to mommy for a hug! Oh my God, those big blue eyes, those pointy little horns, that big dark blue tail!]

[A little fence: That face value…are you a little princess from a fairy tale wu wu wu]

[17th day: She’s so white and cute and she’s so quiet, but why are her eyes so watery! Her eyes really do talk!]

Shen Mian looked at the crackling mock battlefield arena and then at the quiet little girl and asked He Xing, “Do you think the centre should get a swimming pool?”

He Xing: “My dear Dean, you said during the live broadcast a while ago that you were preparing to build a library and yesterday you said you wanted to renovate the dormitories… Let’s discuss, how about buying a piece of land first?”

The childcare centre only has so much space. The back yard had a vegetable patch, the front yard had two small buildings and the open space had the mock battle arena. Although Shen Mian said that he would pack it away and give it to Yan Tan to take home, Yan Zhou will probably not want it – that unlucky straight A cancer counted on Shen Mian to help him coax the dragon cub and would never take back the mock battlefield arena.

Shen Mian looked at He Xing. His gaze was still intimidating through the holographic glasses.

He Xing decisively shut up.

Shen Mian pushed up the glasses and pondered, “You’re right.”

The barrage that originally focused on Xing Fei was immediately skewed:

[Xue Lulu: Hahahahaha wake up Dean, you only have four cubs in the centre!]

[Does your throat hurt today?: It’s actually really expensive to raise dragon cubs. Better centres pretty much all have mock battle arenas, pools and activity venues. Libraries are less common but having a library would be nice. Which dragon cub is willingly studying, we all tear up books and tear down the house.]

[Xue Lulu: tsk tsk, our little princess and Gian love to read.]

[Death Rays: …I can’t take it anymore, it’s the middle of September! It’s almost October! Dean, do you remember you have a childcare qualification test?!]

[Seventh Legion Super God: I’ve been wanting to say that for a long time, too. Have you completely forgotten about it, Dean?]

Of course, Shen Mian wouldn’t forget about it.

The Dragon Empire is especially strict on basic education. Every year on October 26th, childcare teachers will have an assessment and if they pass the assessment, they can keep their qualifications, but if they fail, they will be disqualified until they pass the next assessment. The assessment is divided into three parts: 40% for morality, 50% for professional knowledge and 10% from the parental evaluation.

The assessment is crucial for every childcare teacher and it is even more important for Qiming Childcare Centre because the centre only has one nursery teacher, Shen Mian, and if Shen Mian fails the assessment, the centre will be considered unqualified.

Shen Mian has absolutely no problem with professional knowledge as he had memorised all the professional courses. There’s nothing to be afraid of from simply taking an exam. Parent evaluations have even fewer problems – Lu Yuan is the only dragon cub that pays tuition to attend at the centre, so a valid parental evaluation can only be given by his parents.

And the Lu Yuan parents would hate to give Shen Mian up-

Every time Shen Mian ended a unit, he would make a paper for the little dragon cubs and Lu Yuan has been stabilized at around 80 points under normal difficulty. Every time Shen Mian sent a photo of the test paper to Lu Yuan’s parents, he would receive a few minutes of voice gratitude from them. Shen Mian sent a photo of the test over a few days ago, the other party also took the initiative to say that they will give Shen Mian five-star rating for the childcare teacher qualification assessment and requested that Shen Mian must remember to invite them to fill out the questionnaire.

The grading of morality was a bit more complicated. Usually, if there is no evidence of unhealthy bad habits, they can get a passing grade for morality.

Shen Mian didn’t worry about his exam, his attention was more on the dragon cubs.

He Xing pondered, “Speaking of the childcare teacher qualification exam, I remember when I was in kindergarten, I was forced to enter an essay competition this time of year.”

Shen Mian didn’t care at all about the mythical dragon’s childhood, he’s more worried about whether there’s enough money in the vault to build a library, so he took his quantum computer to take care of his mana plants with an indifferent face.

He Xing quickly followed, “There is a very famous magazine for young dragons in the Dragon Empire called Nova, which is run by several elementary schools in the empire. Every year in September, Magazine Nova hosts a big event to collect essays from dragon cubs all over the empire.”

Shen Mian stopped, “The events of the education department?”
If it was a large-scale event in the education department, he should know about it.

He Xing shook his head, “It’s not. This event was originally created to collect poems or essays praising the childcare teachers from the cubs, and then publishing them as a collection of poems and short essays. Then it got bigger and bigger and although it wasn’t an education department event, the teachers in charge of the selection were very good and if a cub has their short essay or poem selected for Magazine Nova, they could get extra points when they do their elementary school entrance exam.”

Shen Mian felt something wrong, “Then how come you were forced to write an essay?”
Most mythical dragons don’t go to school outside, right?

He Xing painfully spoke, “It’s a no-good operation- I have a relative who is a childcare teacher and he helped me with that essay and signed his name on it when it was published, which supposedly counts for the childcare teacher morality assessment.”

Shen Mian: “…It’s not necessary to give me extra points but it’s still necessary to give the little dragon cubs extra points. I’ll ask them tonight.”

He Xing faced the live broadcast and gestured a sign of victory.

[Death Rays: Hmm…why does it feel like the dean’s friend is just trying to trap the dragon cubs?]

[Crown Prince’s Medal: I think it’s just…this dragon tsk tsk.]

[Song of Rain: Most of all, I’d like to give the dean a declaration too, but unfortunately, I’m not a cub anymore.]

[Got any wine?: In front, what magical speech are you going to declare hahahaha, our Dean isn’t a celebrity.]

……

After reading them the story of the day, Shen Mian told the four little dragon cubs the news before they went to bed.

The theme of the poems and essays in Magazine Nova was “The Most Important Existence”, but there weren’t any other prompts, leaving the dragon cubs free to do whatever they wanted.

Gian raised his hand, “Is there remuneration for contribution?”

Shen Mian hadn’t really noticed this, he only noticed the plus five points. Shen Mian opened the quantum computer light screen to take a look, “There’s no remuneration for contribution.”

The brightly reflective dragon cub was visibly disappointed, “There…there’s five extra points, I want to participate.”

Xing Fei raised her small hand, “I want to as well.”

Yan Tan didn’t want to just paint clothes and tried to expand his business, leaning in front of Shen Mian, “Are they hiring an artist to paint covers?”

Shen Mian, “No recruitments.”
Lu Yuan raised his hand, “Do I have to participate?”

Shen Mian, “I’m a democratic dean, I don’t force dragon cubs.”

Lu Yuan lazily rolled over on top of Gian, rubbed his face and vaguely said, “Then I don’t want to do it.”

Shen Mian picked up the little fatty and sat him on his lap, “You get extra points, many key elementary schools give you extra points.”

Lu Yuan held his large face in horror.

Shen Mian repeated, “You get extra points, got it?”

Lu Yuan vigorously nodded, “Yes!”

Shen Mian, “Are you participating?”

Lu Yuan, “I really want to participate!”

Shen Mian rubbed the little spotted dragon’s head, satisfied with Lu Yuan’s ability to be flexible.

After sending off the four little dragon cubs, Shen Mian and He Xing closed the door and prepared to rest. Because of the little dragon cubs’ presence, both Shen Mian and He Xing slept lightly, so when the door to the next dorm opened in the middle of the night and a little dragon cub’s footsteps softly sounded, Shen Mian opened his eyes in the darkness.

He got up and straightened his clothes. He Xing, who sat up and shook his head, got out of bed and gently pushed open the door.

Xing Fei wasn’t sleeping and was lying on the railing with her diary.

Shen Mian was worried about scaring her and made his footsteps quiet. The little girl turned her head when she heard the footsteps and held the diary a little panickly, “Sorry for the noise…”

Shen Mian bent his knees and crouched down, tidying her somewhat messy hair, “Are you uncomfortable anywhere?”
Dragonization can be physically uncomfortable,

“No,” Xing Fei dropped her head apologetically, “I’m not sleepy.”

Shen Mian paused, his eyes gradually became subtle – as the cetacean dragon’s body grows, the functions of the left and right brains be perfected and be able to slowly alternate between resting. Adult cetacean dragons only need half an hour of sleep a day and can remain active for the rest of the day.

That’s why cetacean dragons are very lively and cetacean cubs of different ages can stay awake for different amounts of time each day, with some well-developed cubs only needing to sleep for a few hours a day before they are ready to spread their joyful energy.

In many centres, cetacean dragon cubs are the ones that can drive a childcare teacher crazy.
