New Dragon Cub

The next day, the physical contract really did arrive in the afternoon. Shen Mian signed it directly, sent it back, then went back to find the original textbooks in the centre.

He has been very busy recently – It has been less than a week since all childcare centres in the Dragon Empire had resumed. Although there is only one cub in the centre, Shen Mian still wants to do his best to give Gian lessons according to mainstream time.

There were already textbooks in the centre but they were all stuffed in the utility room after the old dean’s death. When the original owner came, he ran about every day for his livelihood, but never found them.

Now that Shen Mian has signed the anchor contract, the basic monthly salary was enough to support Gian and he could finally look for the textbooks.

There were a lot of things piled in the utility room, among which there were two old model housekeeping robots, but they had been completely scrapped. Shen Mian cleaned the room and cleared out some things that would be useful.

The textbooks that Qiming Childcare Centre had was a basic set.

Gian carried a bunch of textbooks and toppled outside to let them air out. He knew that he would be the one using these textbooks so his movements were very careful.

The physical books in the interstellar era no longer use paper. Although they will not become mouldy, since they have been in the storage room for so long, they have been covered in a thick coat of dust.

He Xing’s sleeves were rolled up to his elbows, the remains of the two housekeeping robots laid in front of him, looking at Gian’s back, “I’ve used several of those textbooks when I was in kindergarten, this version has fallen behind and a lot of the information is wrong.”

Shen Mian nodded, “One of them is the first version, it is time to change.”

He walked to He Xing’s side, “Can they be repaired even in this state?”

“It can’t be repaired,” He Xing lazily put on a part, “But it can be reinstalled. I bought a spare parts package, which will arrive in a while, and then install the new parts in, you won’t be using money and they’re more durable than the ones bought outside. How come you live broadcasted for so long today?”

Shen Mian started live broadcasting at five o’clock this morning. He stewed a four catty feathered wurm for three hours. When the lid opened, a fresh fragrance swept every corner of the live broadcast room.

The barrage, which had no movement at first, seemed to have awakened. The fragrance exploded in their face with many people smashing gifts. At the end of the broadcast, the number of people in the live room had reached more than 30,000.

Shen Mian, “Yesterday, I signed a virtual contract with Cat Eye, which has already come into effect so the broadcast time will be a bit longer.”

He Xing smiled, the things in front of him that were usable were pretty much pieced back together, the prototype of the housekeeping robot was vaguely visible, “Cat Eye’s movements are pretty quick.”

Shen Mian, “Hm?”

He Xing said with a smile, “On the basis of harmony between humans and dragons, Cat Eye should focus on this theme next. You see, humans come here to see dragons and dragons come here to fan over humans, so they should promote the exchange between the two civilisations.”

Shen Mian coldly said, “Are you an actor in the performing art troupes in the army? It’s just a show.”

Qiming Kindergarten has always been a welfare home under the cover of a childcare centre, so when other centres have fancy advertisements for admissions, Shen Mian does not feel that any dragon will notice his little broken centre.

There is only one teacher in the whole school, who would dare to come? In addition to the live broadcast these days, he concentrated on preparing the textbooks for Gian along with creating the lesson plan.

Anyways, Shen Mian wouldn’t dare to, so when he received a consultation call from a couple, the first thought in his mind was not to collect tuition fees but –

“Is this a biological child?”

After Shen Mian was cut off, he dialled back only to find that the other party had shut off their phone. His always cold expression had evolved into a “life is meaningless” look.

He Xing had just absorbed the mana and was also forced to receive the pheromones that followed. He was stunned by the strong presence of an alcoholic scent.

He had never been so sensitive to anyone’s pheromones. Shen Mian’s pheromones are completely different from his cold self. The intense alcoholic scent was hot and seemingly sweet, even an alpha is no match for the domineering smell. It’s like you will get drunk after smelling a bit more of the scent.

He Xing, who was half drunk and not drunk, did not hear Shen Mian’s words. He distractedly uttered an “uh-huh” while thinking about how he should tell Shen Mian about his pheromones.

The official website of the childcare teachers under the education network has information on all childcare centres in the empire. Just a simple search can show all the basic information on a certain centre. 

The parents who talked to him cried from the beginning to the end of the call. Shen Mian did not have the opportunity to intervene at all and it was only from the parents intermittent crying that the cub that was about to arrive that afternoon was a little devil.

He Xing, who was reciting the declaration of enlistment in the army, was stunned for a moment, “Huh?”

Shen Mian put down the book: “Are you allergic to the mana? What expression is that?”

He Xing swallowed the comment that was about to come out – He was shameless, but as an alpha, suddenly mentioning an omega’s pheromones… it could seem like a bit of harassment.

Since Shen Mian didn’t do it intentionally and the dose of pheromones passed was very small, if this was a different alpha, they may not feel it unless they were in estrus. 

It stands to reason that He Xing should also be a member of those alphas. He does not have a physique sensitive to pheromones, but Shen Mian’s pheromones are simply He Xing’s allergen and will he react when touched.

He Xing couldn’t really tell, and he was exhausted, “Nothing. Continue on.”

Shen Mian does not have a talkative personality and did not know there was such a thing as confessing desire. Just as he was going to ask a rhetorical question, the quantum computer started buzzing.

Someone rang the centre’s doorbell. Shen Mian pulled up the monitor and glanced at it. Sure enough, a couple with a cub was waiting outside.

Shen Mian got up.

He Xing subconsciously followed, took two steps then couldn’t help but sigh: He’d practically left Shen Mian for a few days and could’ve changed back at any time. These days, he had gotten a little more mana than before, each little bit of mana lasting him around ten minutes, but following Shen Mian can be costly.

Shen Mian did not pay attention to He Xing’s thoughts and went downstairs to the centre’s front door.

Little Gian, who was reading a storybook, quickly abandoned the book he had read halfway through, trotting to catch up, his small claws loosened and tightened several times, still carefully holding Shen Mian’s hand.

“Dean, are you going out?”

Gian asked, looking up.

Shen Mian, “A cub came today and may take classes with Gian in the future.”

The couple waiting outside the centre was neatly dressed, looking like what should be a wealthy family. The cub was holding the lady’s hand…

The whole body was covered with soft down and there were two oval ears shooting up towards the sky. The limbs and ears were black, the big round face and belly were snow white.

All the velvet dragon subspecies are not scaly – they have soft downs, their staple food is purely plants and their temperatures are relatively mild, but their combat effectiveness is strangely strong.

Although spotted dragons are covered with down, there are two hard bones under the skin on their backs and its hardness is comparable to the scales and crystal spines of the gem dragon. 

The baby spotted dragon held his mother’s hand. Although his eyes were vigorously turning around, there was no other extraordinary movement. When the door in front of him was opened, he also cast a curious look towards Shen Mian.

Pure eyes, not at all like the little devil Shen Mian had imagined.

He Xing put both his hands on Gian, one big, one small both glanced at each other and at the same time came up with a similar thought: Spotted dragons can eat a lot/ The new brother looks like he can eat a lot.

The mother spotted dragon should be a female omega, holding her child in one hand with tears on her face.

The father spotted dragon came up and extended his hand, “Hello, hello, my name is An Long¹. Are you the dean of the childcare centre?”

Shen Mian shook hands with him, “Hello, just call me Shen Mian.”

The spotted dragon race has no surname and never pay attention to family lineage.

There was a heavy tired expression on An Long’s face, he pushed the spotted dragon cub up, “This is my child, Lu Yuan. He is seven and a half years old this year. We moved to Water Star because of work reasons and want to let him complete school here.”

Lu Yuan was a very social little fattie, waving his fluffy black paw, “Hi!”

Dean Shen, “… Hello.”

If they accept Lu Yuan, that means Qiming Childcare Centre will get the tuition fee as an extra income, but… Shen Mian had some headaches. He himself is not knowledgeable and unskilled. Gian settled in Qiming Childcare Centre and it is not easy to transfer to other nursery schools, Lu Yuan obviously has better choices.

Qiming is a private centre that cannot even keep up with hardware facilities. It is not suitable for accepting too many students, but how to refuse is a problem.

Shen Mian wanted to say, No, we can’t accept.

But this is obviously inappropriate.

He Xing approached him and held out his hand, “Mr An Long, hello.”

An Long quickly shook hands with him, wondering, “You are?”

“I am the person in charge of safety at Qiming Childcare Centre, my surname is He,” He Xing said with a smile, “This is the case. Our kindergarten registration time is relatively short, so there is a lack of resources for the teachers. Don’t you think this should be considered carefully?”

An Long waved his hand, “Mr He. I have read the specific information about your centre. I have also inquired about the history of your centre elsewhere. He Xing shut up, Damn it, was just about to use the live broadcast as a reason for refusal.

Shen Mian’s gaze fell on Lu Yuan, Is this a little invincible overlord that beats opponents of the same age? If he was this type, he was really not afraid.

He Xing coughed and Shen Mian raised his head, “Since you say so, then let Lu Yuan enrol first.”

An Long was relieved and followed Shen Mian into the centre to go through the admission procedures.

As they went through the admission procedures, Lu Yuan slowly walked towards Gian.

The two dragon cubs were about the same height and they were both chubby.

Lu Yuan stretched out his claws and reached towards stomach – He had a pocket on his belly!

Gian’s eyes widened. This was his first time seeing a spotted dragon and he was immediately impressed by this wonderful little pocket.

Lu Yuan dug around his pocket and grabbed a handful of colourful candy, “Give to you.”

Gian hesitated. From what he was taught, he had never taken advantage of anything.

Lu Yuan patted his stomach with his other hand, “I still have a lot of them. These are for you, be my little brother! We will conquer the stars and seas together in the future, I will be the captain and you are the vice-captain!”

1. His name 安垄 (ān lǒng) has a different pronunciation to dragon 龙 (lóng).

So in this story, they use 育幼院 (yù yòu yuàn) which means both childcare centre and kindergarten. Childcare centre is the main translation that I’ll be using but in some contexts, it doesn’t make sense. When I use kindergarten, I mean that his grade is kindergarten.
