LBRDI Chapter 64

Tying a Bun

Bonus ko-fi chapter

It didn’t matter what kind of books he bought, it was just that Shen Mian didn’t really understand why Gian was so obsessed with parenting education. “Do you like reading these books?”

It was obvious that Gian was a little dragon cub himself. Was there something that Shen Mian didn’t do enough which made Gian feel insecure?

Gian was a little embarrassed, the tip of his tail flicking behind him. “Because… I like Dean and I like little dragon cubs too.”

A little dragon cub saying in a loving tone that he likes little dragon cubs too… isn’t that an intriguing thing?
Shen Mian paused. “…Okay, then we’ll buy this book.”

He got down on one knee. “But I’d rather you have your own interests and not learn about this for my sake. My Gian is Gian.”

Gian held the book and tilted his head in confusion.

Shen Mian just rubbed his head.

He took the two dragon cubs inside to pay and then walked around the bookstore to make sure they didn’t want anything else before leaving and entering the department store.

The department store in Snowdome Mall was a large supermarket, which took up most of the first floor and had all kinds of things inside. There was a safe deposit box and a detector at the entrance to prevent customers from bringing in their space buttons. Shen Mian didn’t have a space button, but put Gian’s small pouch into the safe deposit box and collected a small trolley.

Rhein sat in the trolley, swinging his little legs in excitement.

Shen Mian planned to buy some fast food and fruits, which would be useful in the afternoon at the amusement park.

It had been a long time since Gian had come out to have fun and he couldn’t help but look left and right. Shen Mian looked around when he was picking fruit. Currently, it was normal working hours and since it was nearing the end of the dragon’s year, everyone was working overtime. There were basically no customers in the supermarket, so Shen Mian simply let Gian and Rhein look around the shelves near them, as long as they didn’t go too far.

Rhein shook his calves. “I’d rather not.”

Gian grabbed the shopping cart and asked in confusion, “But aren’t we here to shop in the supermarket?”

Rhein shook his head. “No, I came to watch you guys shop in the supermarket.”

Gian, “…Alright.”

Shen Mian pretended to not hear them- as a person with a spatial ability and had an obscure hamster disease, he probably could never in his lifetime understand why he could go into a supermarket and still control his hoarding hand.

……

Ocean World and Stars A Million Miles Away were on the second floor of Snowdome Mall and had a comprehensive care system, which was convenient for parents wanting to be alone.

Ocean World was a mobile indoor water cube, surrounded by chairs with parents waiting for their children. From the outside, you could see the inside of the cube, which was already filled with little dragon cubs, mostly in dragon form, but also some in human form.

Since Xing Fei had never learned to swim, He Xing hired an instructor, who taught swimming, to go with Xing Fei to prevent the little girl from drowning.  Xing Fei was an amphibious dragon but she had never been in the water before, so they had to be careful.

Xing Fei took out her spare tie and brought it to He Xing, so as to not tie her hair after it got wet. “I forgot to put this in my bag. Uncle, hold this for me.”

He Xing naturally put the little girl’s hair tie around his wrist.

The coach couldn’t help but sneak a few glances at He Xing and couldn’t hold back her excitement- this should be the crown prince! Although the crown prince was wearing a mask, anyone who watched the dean’s live broadcast could recognize Xing Fei. She knew that the crown prince was on Water Star, but she never thought that there would be a day where she would have close contact with the crown prince.

Also, he’s so considerate!
I can’t believe you’d put a little girl’s hair tie around your wrist!

He Xing ruffled the little girl’s hair. “Then uncle will come back in twenty minutes. If you want to come out earlier, remember to send me a voice message, I’ll be right back.”

He Xing looked up and nodded slightly at the coach. “Please take care of her, she’s a cetacean dragon hybrid. This is her first time in the water so please pay a little more attention to her.”

The coach was busy nodding her head. “It should be obvious.”
Looking at the male god is, well, looking at the male god, but you still have to do your job well.

Xing Fei smiled at He Xing. “I’ll be good. Uncle, you should hurry up and take Brother Lu Yuan to play.”

He Xing watched the little girl enter the water under the coach’s escort, swimming two laps on instinct, before leading Lu Yuan across to Stars A Million Miles Away on the other side.

Xing Fei wasn’t a dragon cub that needed company at all times, instead, she preferred to be alone.

Although it was her first time in the water, Xing Fei immediately felt the call of her instincts and was soon able to swim further away from the shore.

The water cube was decorated with some beautiful simulated seascapes, coral bushes, seashells, some starfish and more, satisfying the ocean fantasies of many dragons who didn’t have access to the ocean.

Xing Fei signalled the coach, took a deep breath, lowered her head and dove into the water.

The coach dove into the water right after to prevent any accidents.
She’d only been working at this Ocean World for a short while, but she had already gotten a lot of praise for the month or so she’s been on the job because she never let some dragon cubs go down for a swim on their own because of their race.

Xing Fei saw a coral bush. The imitations were very realistic. Xing Fei swam around the coral bush twice, colourful fish weaving in and out of it. After a while, Xing Fei felt that it was not necessary to stay underwater for too long even though it was her first time in the water. She was about to float to the surface when she suddenly saw a long, sharp horn in the beautiful coral.

It had brilliant colours that rivalled those of the coral bush, with spiral patterns on the horns.

They looked like the rainbow horned dragon under the aquatic dragon genus. They had gills behind their ears that opened when water entered and unlike dragons like Xing Fei, who needed to surface for air, they could breathe underwater.

Xing Fei hesitated for a moment, but still reached out and patted the other dragon- although they were a dragon that could stay underwater for a long time, what if they got stuck in the coral bush? Rainbow horned dragons were already relatively large dragons and it wasn’t impossible for them to get out after going in out of curiosity.

A dragon emerged from the coral bush and surprisingly the other was in their human form, a very pretty little girl.

Xing Fei pointed up and asked her if she wanted to go up together.

The little girl pointed aggrievedly at her hair and only then did Xing Fei see that her beautiful hair was tangled in the coral.

Xing Fei waved to the coach, who wasn’t far away and immediately swam over and helped Xing Fei untangle the little girl’s hair. They then slowly surfaced.

The little girl had been hugging Xing Fei and sobbing the entire time. When she came out, she tearfully asked, “Will I go bald if my hair falls out?”

Xing Fei quickly patted her. “No no, it will grow out soon. Why didn’t you ask other dragons to help?”

The little girl sobbed and spoke, “My name is Bai Li. I’m a rainbow horned dragon. I yelled at first, but my father ignored me! None of the coaches here could hear me.”

Rainbow horned dragons have high sound wave frequencies underwater that exceeded the hearing threshold of most dragons. It just so happened that the coach on duty today wasn’t from a race that used ultrasonic waves and the dragon cub’s father, who could, was off doing who knows what.

The coach, a female omega, carefully checked Bai Li to make sure there were no wounds, before grabbing a large towel, wrapping up both dragon cubs and asking, “Little Bai Li, where’s your coach and dad?”

With tears in her eyes, Bai Li pointed to the parent waiting area. “No coach, dad’s the one with the silver holographic helmet. He’s called Bai Zhu.”
She couldn’t help but touch her hair and although she didn’t suffer any injuries, not only was it loose, she had ripped out a few locks when she struggled with it when it first got tangled, so she didn’t dare move it later.

The coach’s face darkened instantly. She picked up a dragon cub in each hand and walked to the parent waiting area, slapping his silver holographic helmet in anger.

Her father, Bai Zhu, who was busy playing a holographic game, quickly took off his helmet. He also had a nice horn on his head. “Who is it?”

Bai Li sniffled and cried out as she hugged the coach’s leg. “You forgot you had a cub!”

As soon as Bai Zhu saw his daughter’s tears, he was so scared that he put down his holographic helmet and hugged her in his arms, coaxing her. “How could I, you’re my precious daughter, so how could I not remember?”

Bai Li clung to the coach’s calf with one hand. “You lied to me! I’m yelling at you from inside the water and you’re just playing your game! I’m going to tell my grandparents!”

The coach put one hand on her waist. “This father- you are too irresponsible. If you wanted direct trusteeship like other parents, you should have found a coach to accompany her. How could you let her go without even finding a coach?”

Bai Li wiped her tears. “It was me who didn’t let him find a coach.”

Bai Zhu repeatedly nodded. “Yes, yes.”

“Yes your horn!” The coach was out in a rage. “She’s young, are you young? Your family’s daughter’s hair was tangled in the coral bush. She was in there crying out for you and you’re here playing on your quantum computer, does your partner know that you’re bringing up a child like this?”

t/n: “Yes your horn” as in “yes my ass”

Bai Zhu was scared into a cold sweat and was busy looking at his daughter. “Did you get hurt anywhere?”

The little girl didn’t buy his story, so she turned around in anger and hugged Xing Fei.
Bai Li was very fond of Xing Fei, who first discovered her.

Xing Fei was busy patting her on the back, coaxing her a few times and spoke on behalf of the proud little girl. “A lot of hair was pulled out, it must’ve been very painful.”

Bai Zhu was distressed. “There’s a small bald patch.”

Bai Li, who had already stopped crying, had her heart accurately pierced by her father and started to cry, hugging Xing Fei.

Xing Fei, “…”
The tired little Xing Fei finally realised how rare it was to have a compassionate father, let alone one like Uncle He.

The coach was speechless and gave Bai Zhu a fierce look.

Bai Zhu, under the forceful gaze of the two ladies, one big and small, carefully suggested, “How about tying it up? You won’t be able to tell with a nice hairstyle like this little sister’s.”

Xing Fei’s hair was combed into two buns, which were convenient for going underwater and an especially cute, round shape.

Bai Li slowly stopped crying. “Really?”

Bai Zhu vigorously nodded. “Dad swears! Otherwise, dad will sleep on the balcony tonight!”

Bai Li pulled out her wet hair tie and gave it to him. “Then you tie it for me.”

Bai Zhu took the hair tie and smoothed his daughter’s hair, slowly falling into a daze- how do you tie this kind of round bun?
He threw a look for help at the coach.

The coach touched her short hair and also fell silent.

Bai Li’s voice, that still sounded like sobs, spoke up. “Why aren’t you tying it?”

Bai Zhu, “…I don’t know how to tie it.”

Bai Li was struck by lightning. “Do I have to go home bald? I’m not a pretty little dragon cub anymore.”

Xing Fei was helpless against this clown-like father. She took out her pouch and sent a voice message to He Xing.

He Xing came soon after. The tall alpha in a black mask strode in. His gaze fell on Xing Fei first and before he even spoke, his gaze was already all smiles.

Xing Fei rushed over and hugged He Xing, pointed at Bai Li and whispered the whole story, finally asking, “Uncle, can you tie this hairstyle for her?”

He Xing nodded. “I can. But without a comb, it’s hard to make it look as good as yours.”

Xing Fei raised her head. “It’s fine as long as it covers the area where the hair fell off.”

He Xing walked over and greeted Bai Li with a smile. “Hello, pretty little lady. I’m Xing Fei’s uncle, can I help you tie your hair?”

Bai Li nodded with tears in her eyes.

He Xing took the hair tie from the stagnant father’s hand, took one from his wrist and combed two buns for Bai Li.

The longer Bai Zhu heard He Xing’s voice, the more familiar it sounded to him. After thinking for a few seconds, he suddenly realised- is this little human dragon hybrid girl Xing Fei from Qiming Childcare Centre?

So the one who was tying his daughter’s hair… was the Crown Prince himself?

sauced

I can’t relate to Bai Li. My hair is extra thicc and each time I wash my hair, I pull chunks out while attempting to untangle my hair. But no matter how much is pulled, my luscious locks become thiccer.

Since people seem to hate writing, would drawing be better?

also, does anyone know the rules for picking up a novel? Because I saw that silly spring attack hadn’t updated for a while and the original translators website got removed. Send help

  1. I think I read a forum post on NU that if there’s been no new updates after three months you can start translating it, but try to get ahold of the original translator first. If there’s no response, have at it.
And if they start translating it again after you post some chapters, try either negotiating for the right to translate or back down.
    Hope that helps.

  2. Thank you~ chill shopping and swimming time owo

Can’t relate to Bai Li +1. Mine’s a lot, to the extent that it makes pin up styles or similar uncomfortable if it’s on the longer side. So naturally losing a bit of it won’t mean much xD though normally I don’t brush it when it’s wet cause that’s just torture (a lot of hair + constantly pulling on it is uncomfortable + it’s long so it gets tangled again easily = nope xD)

*isn’t feeling up to drawing that* xD btw still no submissions?

    1. I have relatively thin hair but my baby sister has some extra thicc hair. Once we took her to a hairstylist to trim it from shoulder length to neck length (above the shoulders to under the ears) and the whole process took nearly two hours just to go through all the layers. The woman who gave the cut even placed the hair in a baggy for us to bring back and weigh (it was over a pound and a halfish) the whole trip was insane. To make matters worse she hates brushing her hair and we have to use dish soap to wash it because of how oily it tends to get.

    2. Holy shit, does that mean 10cm of her hair was 1,5 pounds?? That’s insane…
Does her hair get oily faster than yours? I didn’t think the amount of hair had sth to do with that 🤔 I also have to use a lot of shampoo but I feel like that’s a given if there’s more hair xD
As for cutting that kinda hair… I’ve actually only been to a hairdresser once (first got it cut by my mom and then did it myself), and that one was kinda weird, as he didn’t cut layers but just did a clean cut and curled it a bit. It looked somewhat alright but when the curls decreased the next day… boy, that straight cut was so abrupt, I immediately had to cut it myself in layers XD. And that takes a loooong time. Cutting my hair basically takes the better part of a whole day. Though I do wonder how long it’d take hairdresser to layer it. It should be faster by quite a bit but I’d kinda feel sorry for them lololol

    3. My family always asks me why I take such a long time in the shower when we do the exact same steps like – fam it’s the goddamn hair. I’ve got a relatively slightly (just slightly) wavy hair and I wanted to straighten it for an event but goodness it took 4 whole hours with 2 hairdressers working on my mid length hair. Don’t even ask me why I’ve never tried longer hair bc I’d never.

  3. Thanks for the chapter! That useless parent, a guy who doesn’t even have kids & spent his adult life in the military fighting knows how to take care of kids so much better than that fool. I hope this new kid joins our lively bunch, our cute girl needs a friend!

  4. hi, regarding your question about silly spring attack, the translator for it was also translating some chapters of Turing’s code in chrystantenum garden. I don’t remember the translator’s name though and I think Turing’s code has 2 or 3 translators. Sorry

  5. I got the same problem. I have a thick hair and what make it worse is my hair is curly. It gives me a good pain if I use different kind of comb than the usual.

  6. I don’t know about other cultures but some in Asia have the belief that hair is part of a person’s best features. There’s a Japanese saying that a woman’s hair is her life, which is why in stuff like tv shows, a big chop might signify a break up or significant lifestyle change.

  8. I have moderately thin hair but because it’s straight and black it’s very obvious when it falls out… even in the shower, there’s always a giant glob by the end

    Thanks for the chapter! 💕

  9. My hair is soft as silk, but extremely thin. I would rather spend hours untangling my hair than accept the loss of a small strand, because it would be very obvious.

  10. I had thin hair that is silky (silky I guess, since when I do buns, it can never stay for long before slowly slipping down and down and down), but falls off easily during rinsing when shampooing. It frustrated me because it become thinner that way. I would love for it to be luscious with each pulls 😭.
