LBRDI Chapter 21

Straight A Cancer

He Xing thought, internally, of course he knew. Since he ate our dragon grass, how could he not know?

Compared to the two cubs at home, the size of the one in Shen Mian’s arms resembled a ninety-catty giant cat, with a slender body, sturdy limbs and a body covered in pitch-black scales. Since it was a young dragon, the silhouette had not yet matured, even the two pairs of horns on the top of the head that should have been lethal were curved and rounded, not intimidating at all.

There were no dragons of this appearance in the six genera Shen Mian knows, so it can only be from a mythical genus with no published 3D images.

The dragon cub desperately swallowed the dragon grass, tears falling down: “I-I didn’t mean to steal the food, I’ll give star coins.”

He Xing quickly pet the dragon cub’s forehead.

“Where’s your uncle?”

“Got lost,” The dragon cub rubbed his belly, “I didn’t eat dinner, I’m so hungry.”

He was so hungry that he couldn’t resist sneaking in to eat a lot of dragon grass.

He Xing,“…”

Didn’t he say that he lost him at the port? How did he end up at the childcare centre?

Shen Mian, “You know his family?”

He Xing nodded, “My comrade’s nephew, he came to see me and also brought his nephew out.”

Yan Huan on the other side of the quantum computer couldn’t hear the conversation between the two of them and asked, “He Xing? Are you there? Did you see my nephew? His name is Yan Tan, don’t just randomly see a black cub and say it’s my nephew.”

He Xing pretended he didn’t hear him and carried the dragon cub.

“Is your uncle’s name Yan Huan?”

The little dragon cub nodded, “En.”

Then he was correct.

He Xing, “In fact, apart from your species, there aren’t any cubs this dark.”

Yan Huan, “…”

Shen Mian looked at Yan Tan who kept licking his mouth, the black scales making the little dragon cub perfectly hidden in the darkness; only the little pink tongue brushing around created a sense of presence.

If it wasn’t for this little thing stuffing his mouth full of bright green dragon grass in the fields, Shen Mian wouldn’t have been able to see him and would’ve had to rely on the sound of him breathing to find him.

“I’ll take him to eat something first.”

Growing cubs can eat like hell. Gian and Lu Yuan get hungry after two lessons, eating one less meal will make them hungry to the point of palpitations. He was afraid that this dragon cub was going to go crazy from hunger.

He Xing picked up the little dragon cub with one arm and greeted his detrimental friend on his quantum computer.

“You don’t need to look around, your nephew is at the childcare centre, just come here.”

After he finished talking, he ended the call and took the little dragon cub to the kitchen along with Shen Mian.

After Yan Tan finished two nutrient solutions, Yan Huan had also arrived at the childcare centre.

Shen Mian glanced at his quantum computer, the monitor showing a dragon in human form standing outside the centre’s door. He made He Xing go.

“He has arrived, go open the door.”

Yan Tan laid on Shen Mian’s chest, his claws hugging Shen Mian’s arms.

Even his belly was black, every single scale was black to the point that none of them could be mottled.

He Xing smoothly rubbed the glossy little belly before going out to open the door for Yan Huan.

The late-night visiting admiral couldn’t be bothered to greet his superior and urged He Xing, “Hurry up and let me in to see Yan Tan, has he been injured?”

He had looked at the map when he arrived. This area was close to an undeveloped wasteland and Yan Huan didn’t know if he had strayed into the dangerous area.

He Xing walked backwards, “None at all, just a lot of nibbling on dragon grass and just drank two nutrient supplements to hold up.”

Yan Huan followed him into the kitchen and looked up to see his nephew lying on the legs of a young man. His belly was facing up being gently rubbed by the human’s warm hand. His eyes closed in comfort and his hind paws shook. His tail drooped onto the floor, clattering and sweeping.

Yan Huan, “???”

He Xing patted Yan Huan’s shoulder as he walked over: “He’s much more comfortable than you.”

Yan Tan heard the movement and lifted his head with great effort, “Uncle?”

Yan Huan had an enigmatic expression of relief.

“I am particularly touched that you can still remember you have an uncle.”

Yan Tan felt very wronged, “It was obviously you who left me.”

The little dragon cub grumbled, jumped up and went in front of Yan Huan, his two front claws gesturing.

“You went to the bathroom, made me wait behind the bag and then you came back and only took the bag! I don’t want an uncle anymore!”

Yan Huan thought carefully, “It seems that something like that did happen.”

Shen Mian, “…”

He Xing, “…”

Yan Tan sniffled and looked like he was about to cry.

“I tried to call out to you at the back, but there were so many dragons at the port that I almost got trampled and as soon as I looked up you had disappeared. I followed your suspension vehicle and flew for a long time.”

The suspension vehicle is the equivalent to the subway on Earth. Even when the admiral, who keeps his guard up all the time, is in a suspension vehicle, he wouldn’t notice anything following him.

In fact, most dragons go on their quantum computer after boarding the vehicle.

Shen Mian understood: The bad adult dragon forgets its cub on a daily basis.

Yan Huan crouched in front of Yan Tan.

“Uncle was wrong. Can you forgive Uncle?”

Yan Tan wiped away his tears.

“I ate a lot of dragon grass and nutrient supplements from this uncle, you should hurry up and pay.”

Yan Huan, “…”

When Admiral Yan spoke to his family, there was a noticeable drop in intelligence. After a moment of contemplation, he felt fooled.

Finding that his buddy was showing stupidity in front of Shen Mian, He Xing lightly coughed.

“I’ll introduce you two, this is my comrade Yan Huan and this is Shen Mian, the dean of this childcare centre.”

Of course Yan Huan knew Shen Mian, he had “seen” this dean many times on the Star Net. The real person is more handsome than the virtual image in the live room, with a hidden sharpness pressed between his eyebrows.

He seemed more like a mercenary than a big boy who had just graduated to become a dean, with a bit of unruly austerity. This kind of person… looks pretty dangerous.

After Yan Huan and Shen Mian shook hands, Yan Tan jumped into Shen Mian’s arms.

He loved Shen Mian’s high body temperature.

Shen Mian steadily caught the pouncing little dragon cub. Yan Tan rushed to his lap, flipped over to show his belly and patted it, his big and wet black eyes looking at Shen Mian.

Shen Mian lifted his hand and placed it on Yan Tan’s stomach and the dragon cub immediately closed his eyes. Shen Mian only rubbed him a few times before Yan Tan’s claws holding him gradually loosened, then went limp on all fours and fell asleep, his wings hanging down on the ground.

Shen Mian’s eyes slowly softened and whispered, “If you don’t mind, can I carry him to bed to sleep?”

There’s only so much room in a man’s arms, not enough room for a dragon cub to roll.

Yan Huan quickly said, “Of course you can, I’ve troubled the dean.”

Shen Mian, “It’s fine.”

He Xing whispered, “Put him on my bed, Yan Huan and I will find somewhere to sleep downstairs for tonight.”

Shen Mian carried Yan Tan upstairs and wiped Yan Tan with a moist towel before putting him on He Xing’s bed, covered him with a quilt and then closed the door and went out.

He just went down to carry the pig and had to take a shower. He finished his shower just in time to see He Xing and the other dragon in front of the room’s door with a spark in between his fingers. Hearing the sound of Shen Mian closing the door, the two dragons looked up at the same time.

Shen Mian’s gaze fell on He Xing’s hand: The dragon race can actually smoke?

He Xing subconsciously hid his hand behind his back, secretly spurning his guilty conscience.

Shen Mian walked over to him. He was wearing black pyjamas, and under the not-so-bright light of the corridor, the unapproachable coldness around him was smoothed out.

Before He Xing opened his mouth to admit his mistake and extinguish the spark in his hand, Shen Mian asked in a low voice,”Is there more?”

“You smoke these?”

He Xing pulled out a metal box from his pocket, popping open the lid to reveal a row of white cigarettes.

Shen Mian raised his hand.

“Isn’t it a cigarette?”

He Xing, “It is, but gold mint has been wrapped inside.

Gold mint to dragons is what catnip is to cats, the substances in it will put the dragons into a state of euphoria for a short time. It is completely harmless to both humans and dragons, and many of the dragon’s drinks contain this ingredient.

The “menthol smoke’ produced from the special processing of the gold mint amplifies this effect. Young dragons that have no resistance to gold mint would tear their homes apart. Thus the Empire banned the sale of menthol cigarettes to underage dragons, keeping their bodies somewhat safe, avoiding a lesson of love.

Although Shen Mian had heard of menthol cigarettes, he had never seen a real one. At first glance, there was no difference between them and ordinary cigarettes, but they burnt with an orange aroma and not the quirky smell of cigarettes.

Shen Mian took one out and He Xing gave him a light, protecting the flame with one hand and reminded him in a low voice, “There will be a little rush.”

Yan Huan watched the two and slowly narrowed his eyes – No wonder little Vick said that if he didn’t come to persuade him, He Xing’s child will magically pop out from nowhere. He watched He Xing feel the rush towards his head before half of his menthol cigarette had even been smoked.

The Grand Marshal of the Seventh Legion giving cigarettes to other dragons, since when did he personally light it for them?

The menthol smoke is harmless towards humans and tastes just as spicy as He Xing had said it would be, but the aftertaste is aromatic.

Shen Mian knocked on the railing with the cigarette in his mouth.

“You guys can talk, I’m going to the kitchen.”

Not knowing what these two had to talk about, he couldn’t just go into the bedroom with a cigarette in hand, so he simply went to the kitchen to prepare breakfast.

There was still a tender feathered wurm frozen in the freezer, which could be taken out and directly simmered until morning to create a pot of tender meat stew.

He Xing put out his cigarette and went around to the other side of Shen Mian, blocking the wind.

“It’s late so don’t go, we can drink nutrient solutions in the morning. I was just talking with Yan Huan about Yan Tan.”

Hearing the dragon cub’s name, Shen Mian raised his gaze.

Yan Huan rubbed his eyebrows, the menthol cigarette between his fingers slowly burned.

“Dean should also give me a suggestion.”

Shen Mian was expressionless.

“I don’t have any suggestions, I’m just responsible for raising dragons.”

Yan Huan smiled, “Dean should know that both He Xing and I are both of the mythical genera. According to our genus, we all have brave personalities, but Yan Tan doesn’t.”

“You can tell that he is a little crybaby, petulant and clingy.”

Otherwise at the port, according to a normal cub’s personality, they would’ve spread their wings and flew up long ago, stepping on the heads of other adult dragons to catch up.

Shen Mian holding the cigarette, “So?”

Yan Huan, “My older brother is very dissatisfied with Yan Tan’s personality.”

He Xing added an explanation: “His older brother, Yan Zhou, whose primary gender is male, has straight A cancer.

Concise and very pertinent.

Yan Huan faced Shen Mian’s gaze, spreading his hands.

“Really. He was trying to get me to send the kid near the wastelands for training.”

So bringing the child out to relax was just a pretext. The truth was that Yan Huan disliked his son’s lack of masculinity and couldn’t teach him well, so he could only leave him to his younger brother, who served in the military and has many merits.

Shen Mian lowered his head and sighed, “…”

Admiral Yan, “If you want to scold me, I’ll be deaf for a while.”

Shen Mian, “Is he insane?”

Yan Huan, “…”

Yep, he really is fierce.

  3. I cant help it, but the last sentence that SM said made me think of a scene. Where SM as the Queen Boss yakuza type, sitting in a sofa while smoke, HX as the Loyal Dog subordinate type that stand behind SM ready at anytime, and YH as a troublesome client that HX introduce, kneeling at the mercy of the Queen XD. Welp, SM is a bad*ss MC, and I love him so much!!
