LBRDI Chapter 15

Not Bad

Once their instincts have awakened, it will continue to grow. In less than a week, Gian had gone from clicking* to a full spark and it only took a few days for him to be able to fully form and breathe a flame. In addition to the high temperature, the flame of the gem dragon also has a strong impact, which is the “cool skill” that many dragon cubs envy.

But Gian was not happy about it, his mood was getting lower and lower.

He began to avoid Lu Yuan and Shen Mian.

The favourite place of the big dragon cub that can breathe fire was unexpectantly the dragon grass fields behind the dormitory building.

Gian sat on a boulder in the ridge, blankly staring at the sky. He was motionless like a green apple-flavoured jelly mountain, almost merging with the swaying dragon grass.

His mellow back was full of sadness.

He Xing didn’t quite understand. He and Shen Mian were standing in the dormitory building’s shadow, with Lu Yuan standing in between them. The human and two dragons stared at Gian’s back.

He Xing lowered his voice, “I wasn’t like this before.”

Lu Yuan looked up and blinked, the place on his nose where he was burnt by the sparks was still black.

He Xing, “When I was a child, whoever awakened their race’s features first would tell their entire class and other classes until the whole centre knew about it.”

Lu Yuan nodded, “That’s right! I was also very happy when I accidentally bit off the table leg! That shows that I have grown up, that I’ve become a big dragon.”

In order to ensure that it can bear the weight of each dragon, the table in the regular nursery school is basically forged with a special alloy. Such a thing as biting off the table’s leg, among the cubs, only the spotted dragon with such an amazing bite force can do it.

Shen Mian silently swallowed the “what’s wrong with you” that was about to come out.

He feels that he may not be able to participate in the “People and Dragons I’ve followed in the Year” activity that will start tomorrow – the generation gap between people and dragons seems a little too big.

He Xing and Lu Yuan looked at each other for a while, then turned their heads to look at Shen Mian, “Why?”

Shen Mian thought internally: Am I one hundred reasons why1?

He wasn’t a good speaker and was silent for a while before saying, “I think its probably that… he thinks it is causing trouble to others.”

Growing up in a childcare centre and struggling with food and clothing, Gian has a better understanding of “money” than children of the same age. After the death of the old dean, the most difficult period was after the new dean took office. During those days, Gian, who was attached to the centre, lived in a panic every day, fearing that one day he would be notified that they had found a new guardian for him and he was to be sent to a new place.

Gian’s heart is soft and sensitive and he was taught very well by the old dean. He has a set of vague but gradually forming correct concepts and will demand more from himself than other cubs. The road was not smooth and Gian was really precocious.

But at the same time, Gian is also a child who is very insecure. He strives to show his value and to grow into a sensible child that all adult dragons recognize, just hoping not to lag behind.

Right now, his racial features interfere with his daily life. He does not think it is a symbol of growing up but thinks that the feature instincts are a kind of trouble, maybe even dread. If he cannot control his strength, he might accidentally injure his companions.

Shen Mian was silent for a while, “People who fear running may not be able to run in this life2. This is what I worry about.”

He Xing turned his head to look at Gian’s back for a while, then suddenly smiled and said, “I have a method.”

Shen Mian, “Hm?”

He Xing hugged Lu Yuan, who was like a big doll, and winked at Shen Mian, “It’s a secret. Just leave it to me.”

The next day was Wednesday and the Cat Eye Live event, “People and Dragons I’ve followed in the Year”, was officially launched after six o’clock. The platform had dedicated a channel for the event and there was also an exclusive list for the event on the homepage. During the event, the popularity and rewards from the anchor’s broadcasts will be counted as points, and the top ten anchors will be listed on the home page.

As usual, Shen Mian opened the live broadcast at 6:30 and participated in the event. The upper left corner of the live broadcast room had the striking words “addiction and mutual attraction”.

The long-awaited audience outside the live broadcast room immediately poured in.

[Golden State: The dean is the latest treasure I have discovered! The best contracting dean!]

[Sesame Stuffing: Bubbling in the front row! Found that the Dean’s profile picture is gold, are you participating in Cat Eye’s mutual attraction activity?]

[Death Rays: I came late! Explaining for the dean and little Gian. By the way, I made an advertisement for the dean. The dean participated in Cat Eye’s new activity. Those who did not follow should hang out here, those paying attention should send more barrage and sending some free gifts will help in growing popularity! Cheer for the dean!]

[South East: I’m an old fan, I have paid attention from when the dean first live broadcasted the pigs, he really is an alpha-like and cute dean!]

[Lao Tzu is the cutest in the interstellar: The dean is the childcare centre’s dean, a genuine human being!]

[Xi Jing: Everyone, don’t flood the screen, pay attention.]

[Deep Black: The dean should add more housekeepers.]

[His Royal Highness’s Medal gifted Planets x50]

[His Royal Highness’s Medal: Dean, go forth!]

Shen Mian hadn’t spoken yet. A group of fans who have followed him for a long time have already gotten together and propagated about him. Shen Mian was slightly stunned and randomly answered, “Mhm, I am participating in Cat Eye’s activity, you can take note.”

He made breakfast for the live broadcast, but for the first time, there was no snack.

He does not know what He Xing bought yesterday. After it arrived today, he secretly went out and has not returned yet. Shen Mian wondered if that unlucky dragon fell ill on the road. He stewed the horned wurm meat and tomatoes, then put a lid on the pot, which had a good fragrance that filled the screen, and was about to go call the cubs to get up. He Xing suddenly walked in and grabbed Shen Mian’s wrist.

“Come.”

Shen Mian was dragged by him and took a few steps, “What?”

He Xing smiled while saying, “The thing I ordered has arrived! It’s urgent, don’t worry about your soup and just stew it. I’ll buy you another pot if it gets ruined.”

Tens of thousands of people in the live broadcast room watched their anchor being dragged out of the live broadcasting area by a strange man.

[Full Moon: Where? From where did this wild man come from and why did he take away my dean?]

This is the first time He Xing has appeared in the live broadcast in human form. In Shen Mian’s previous live broadcasts, he basically suffered an age regression. When he is in a normal situation, he would spend half a day watching the live broadcast upstairs.

A question mark appeared in the barrage. Just when the fans were full of doubts, the man who took away their anchor walked into the kitchen again, turned down the flames, picked up an old housekeeping robot to watch the fire, then walked in front of the quantum computer and carried it along with its frame.

[Xi Jing: My god… Do you handsome men only play with other handsome men? The dean’s friend is so handsome?!]

[Chasing the Galaxy: He’s not the same type as the dean, he’s cheerful and alpha-like.]

[Lao Tzu is the cutest in the interstellar: The dean is Frost White Star’s blizzard, so the dean’s friend should be the Imperial Star’s star.]

He Xing’s attention was not on the live broadcast at all. He took the quantum computer to the open space between the two buildings of the centre, left it there and went straight to Shen Mian.

The two dragon cubs were already waiting on the open ground, both their round faces had a puzzled expression on. One stood on the left of Shen Mian and the other on the right. In front of Shen Mian stood a box that was taller than himself.

He Xing opened the box and took out a fully equipped robot.

This is not a type of common service robot. Shen Mian saw the barrel on the right arm of the robot. This robot is often used for security patrols, typical of violent machines.

Shen Mian, “What did you buy this for?”

He protected the two dragon cubs hiding behind him as both Gian and Lu Yuan were in close contact with this robot. The cold robot was covered with traits of hard scale armour and the body was also equipped with a gun barrel and □□³. Even if it was a natural-born powerful dragon, they would still be a little afraid of this kind of thing.

He Xing connected the robots power source and flicked the switch. The robots left arm suddenly flew out but He Xing easily caught it. He clamped the robot in one hand, adjusted the gears in the other and explained, “This is for playing, not real. It’s the dragon cubs training toy.”

He released his grip and the robot automatically walked towards Shen Mian.

He Xing said to not take it seriously, but always kept a watch on the robot.

The heavy metal “toy” acted very sensitively, striding in front of Shen Mian and started waving its arm again!

Gian was scared to rush out, but Shen Mian had already stopped the robots arm. He had a strong grip and restrained the mechanical arm until it creaked.

He Xing hurriedly stopped him, “That’s enough now, my dean Shen. If you go any harder, the arm will be removed. This is always out of stock and not easy to buy on Water Star.”

Shen Mian just tested its strength just now and he was sure that this thing was indeed used for sparring, there was no strength. Not to mention that he was an awakened human, even a slightly stronger boy could catch it. The dragon cubs at home are definitely more violent than the big boys.

It probably wasn’t made this big to install any propulsions or lethal weapons in it, but just to live in the hands of the dragon cubs for a while.

He Xing turned off the robot and looked at the two cubs behind Shen Mian, “Okay, which of you is going to try it?”

The two cubs took a step back in unison.

He Xing narrowed his eyes, “Lu Yuan – You want to conquer starcraft dragons in the future, how can you even be afraid of this kind of thing?”

“W-Who is afraid. I’m just preparing.”

For the sake of his dream, Lu Yuan daringly stood up and quietly cast a signal for help to Shen Mian.

Shen Mian crossed his arms and said nothing.

As far as Lu Yuan’s defence was concerned, he was bumped twice by this toy, but it didn’t hurt as much as when his dad bumped him. Not to mention He Xing was very close and still holding the remote control.

If the toy suddenly becomes violent, Shen Mian can immediately ask it to become dust within his space.

Lu Yuan sniffed and trembled towards the robot.

He Xing flicked the switch. After the robot made a sound, the green electronic eyes locked on Lu Yuan and began to walk towards him.

Lu Yuan, “AHHHH – Dean, Gian save me!”

The little fatty turned around and ran away. He Xing didn’t expect him to be so frightened and laughed so hard he couldn’t breathe.

Shen Mian grabbed Lu Yuan, who ran past him and Gian beside him suddenly opened his mouth. A white flame hit the robot, creating gold and white sparks from the contact.

The heated surface on the cold metal suddenly exploded with some fireworks.

Lu Yuan eyes widened, “It’s so beautiful.”

Robot, “Second-level impact and third-level heat are detected, considered an effective attack.”

It reported one sentence and stood still in place.

He Xing propped up the robot and smiled at Gian, “Not bad.”

The author has something to say:

Shen – Strong empathy but just not very talkative – Mian

He – Brain circuit is different from normal dragons but is super efficient – Xing

(He Xing: Mum, I can’t be shorter than the dean, give something that will make me grow)

*The clicking I think means like when you turn on a gas stove or when you use a lighter, the initial spark that comes out lol idk how to explain but something like that.

  1. ” One Hundred Thousand Whys ” is a set of youth popular science books edited and published by the Children’s Publishing House in the early 1960s. So he is probably saying something like “do you think I know”.
  2. I think this is a chinese saying or something, but in Gian’s case, I believe he means that if Gian can’t accept himself, he never can for as long as he lives. I don’t know if this is what the author means but that is my interpretation.
  3. The boxes were also in the Chinese version, so it’s very likely that it refers to a specific weapon that needed to be censored.

I’ll be going back to twice a week!
