ABPTA Chapter 5

About the last chapter, check out the tags I put on novel updates for the male lead lol.

005

Summer mornings are too sunny.
The sounds of birds chirping across the sky.
The wind chimes in the corridor were swinging back and forth, emitting a “ding, ding” sound.

Syncing with Yu Lan’s heartbeat, one after the other.

The man didn’t look away after speaking. There was a hint of hesitation in his gaze.
He noticed Yu Lan’s reaction.

With some milk stains on his lips and the glass of milk still in his hands, Yu Lan’s face remained stunned.

Temporary marks have an… effect?

Shao Mingyu was about to speak again, but Yu Lan somewhat embarrassedly lowered his head. Probably because he was embarrassed, the tips of his ears became even redder, as if they could bleed.
He whispered, “Ah…yes, I see, sorry.”
Shao Mingyu’s heart skipped a beat and said, “No need to apologize for such things.”

“…” Yu Lan took two more sips of milk and smiled. “This is my first time being temporarily marked and I wasn’t really used to it.”
Shao Mingyu’s fingertips gently rubbed the cup, wanting to say something, but not knowing what to say. This feeling was also a first for him.

But at this moment, Yu Lan had quickly finished his food, wiped his mouth and good-naturedly said, “I’ll take little Mars out for a walk.”

The movement of Shao Mingyu’s fingertips stopped.
He felt that this topic shouldn’t have ended like this, but he took a serious look at the youth and eventually gave a slight nod. “…Alright.”

Yu Lan ran out into the hallway and called little Mars. The sheepdog came bounding in from behind, tongue wagging.
Yu Lan crouched down to put the leash on and when he finished, one big and one small walked out with a brisk step.

When Uncle Liu came out, he saw the man sitting in place, looking out the door.
He followed his gaze and smiled. “Did Yu Lan finish eating so quickly?”

The day before yesterday, the young man specifically told him and Aunty Jiang that it was fine to call him by his first name, but it wasn’t the same for Mr Shao. The two of them already treated Yu Lan as a child in the first place, but this instead became more intimate.

When the man heard him, it was as if this was the only time he remembered to withdraw his gaze, and, responding, got up and said, “I’m almost ready to leave. The doctor will come over again today to give Yu Lan’s head another check-up.”
“Yes.”

*

As Yu Lan walked through the woods, he heard noises.
Looking to the right, he saw a black vehicle driving down the lane just a short distance away in the shadows of the trees.

It was Mr Shao’s car.

Yu Lan withdrew his gaze and looked at his feet.
Each time Little Mars took a step, he took a step, kicking at the leaves on the ground.

Was it just the effect of the temporary mark?

Yu Lan lifted his hand and touched the back of his neck.
Thinking back on it now, it was as if he could still feel the heat and force of last night’s bite.

Mr Shao’s scent flowed through his body.

Is that why his heart was beating so fast when he saw Mr Shao?

Yu Lan didn’t know.

He had too many things he didn’t know.

Sixteen years of captivity seemed to have scrambled things in his head. Often, Yu Lan feels like he should know something, but couldn’t recall it no matter how much he thought about it.
Just like the mark. He only knew that the mark was a very special and important thing between alphas and omegas. He had vaguely heard that it was split into temporary and permanent marks, but he didn’t know how to distinguish them and he didn’t know what would happen to the alpha and omega after the mark was done.

Were all his reactions just because of that temporary mark from last night?

Seemingly not, Yu Lan heard the voice from the bottom of his own heart.

When he met Mr Shao, asked for help and the man chose to shield him in his arms, everything had already begun.

But…

If Mr Shao thinks that this is the effect from the temporary mark, so be it.
In a week it will be… gone?

Yu Lan pursed his lips and tried to smile, but after a while, he lowered his eyes and silently walked through the woods.

*

The doctor did a second examination for Yu Lan. His brow furrowed even tighter than the last, making Yu Lan worried.

He already knew what was going on with his estrus.

His estrus period had become very frequent. Fortunately, the general temporary mark can work for a week, which meant that Yu Lan at least didn’t have to face the dilemma of being in heat once in a day or two. However, inhibitors could only be used once a month. That is to say, most of the time he gets his estrus later, he’ll have to rely on temporary marks to get through it.

Yu Lan didn’t expect it to turn out like this. Things were much worse than he thought and now that he saw this look on the doctor’s face, he really worried that something was wrong with his head as well.

But the doctor didn’t say much, just sighed, patted him on the shoulder and said, “Take your medicine and get well.”

So Yu Lan took the boxes of medication and said, frustrated and obediently, “Yes, thank you.”

On the topic of temporary marks, Yu Lan didn’t talk to Shao Mingyu again.
In other words, when Shao Mingyu returned that night, it seemed that he wanted to try to talk to Yu Lan, but Yu Lan had carefully avoided it all. Shao Mingyu should have sensed that and the topic had never been brought up again.

On the seventh day after Yu Lan was brought home by Shao Mingyu, he finally got a chance to go out.

It was Uncle Liu who took him. They both got into the spare car and with the bodyguard acting as driver, they drove out of the manor and into the middle of the city.

On the day he arrived, Yu Lan had noticed that the manor was in a relatively remote location. Driving to the city centre would take half an hour.

When he got to the city centre, there were more people. High-rise buildings lined the streets and the routes were very busy whether on the roads or in the air.
From time to time, holographic advertisements appeared and disappeared in front of him, for beauty, jewellery, gyms and movie trailers.

The urban area at night was brilliantly lit, whereas, during the day, the noise level was many times that of the night.

Yu Lan was lying by the window, as usual, staring at everything unfamiliar, and Uncle Liu was sitting beside him, smiling at him.

“The teacher Mr Shao hired is an acquaintance. Her father was a housekeeper in Mr Shao’s grandfather’s house for a period of time. She herself is now a high school teacher and will mainly be teaching you some basics, general knowledge, literature and history.”
Shao Mingyu also hired other teachers for Yu Lan, but naturally, learning such things is a step-by-step process.

Yu Lan’s expression was serious. Mr Shao had put so much thought into it for him, he would never waste it.

The teacher’s surname was Bai. She was twenty-six years old and a very gentle-looking woman.
She welcomed Yu Lan into her home, along with a boy in a t-shirt and ripped jeans with dyed pink hair, who was also an omega, leaning against the door looking askance at Yu Lan.

“This is my younger brother, who lives with me during the summer holidays,” Teacher Bai introduced and then said towards her younger brother, “This is Mr Shao’s…”

She looked at Yu Lan and Uncle Liu and added, “Younger brother. His name is Yu Lan.”

Teacher Bai’s brother, Bai Lu swept Yu Lan up and down and his eyes fixed on Yu Lan’s face. He snorted, turned around, entered the room and closed the door with a bang.

Yu Lan, of course, noticed right away that the other party didn’t like him, but he didn’t feel anything. Teacher Bai was embarrassed. “Sorry, my brother has a bit of a bad temper. This time it’s also because he had a fight with our parents that he moved in with me, hey.”
Teacher Bai was obviously worried about her younger brother.

Uncle Liu chuckled, “It’s fine, he’s still young.”

But before he left, he lowered his voice and said to Yu Lan, “If you have anything to say, just tell me. Don’t aggravate yourself.”

Yu Lan nodded and also whispered, “I know, but Teacher Bai seems like a nice person.”
“Mhm, she’s quite nice.” Uncle Liu rubbed Yu Lan’s head and left to do something else first.

Teacher Bai arranged the class to be in the living room, with a chalkboard at the front.
In the entire living room, only one student, Yu Lan, sat at a desk, listening to the class carefully.

The basics were learned quickly because of the aid of the chip.
Today’s children in normal families engage in externally applied chip-based learning between the ages of five and six, quickly inputting basic knowledge and common sense into the child’s brain.
Yu Lan’s ability to learn was also quite fast, and after two hours of class, Teacher Bai subconsciously said, “You learn so fast.”

Yu Lan smiled.

At the age of 22, he learned what a normal child would learn at the age of 5 or 6. Yu Lan even wished that he could go a little faster.

At noon, Teacher Bai went to cook lunch- Yu Lan’s lunch was also her responsibility.

Yu Lan was reading a book and a short while later, a figure appeared in front of him.

Yu Lan froze and looked up, meeting the boy’s arrogant eyes.

“Excuse me, do you need something?” Yu Lan withdrew his hands on the desk and politely asked.
The boy snorted again, “Little white rabbit1?”
Yu Lan, “…?”
The boy dragged out his voice, “Hey, is that Mr Shao’s pheromone on your body?”

Yu Lan tensed up.

A week had almost passed and Mr Shao’s pheromones had almost completely faded, yes this person could still detect them.

“Younger brother? Where did this younger brother come from. What younger brother needs an older brother’s help with temporary marks?” Bai Lu bent down and leaned in close, squinting at Yu Lan, “Where the hell did you come from and why have I never heard of this before?”

Yu Lan pursed his lips and dryly said, “I’m telling Mr Shao when I go back.”

Bai Lu, “…”
His expression distorted for a moment and superficially smiled, “Ha, haha…”

Yu Lan’s eyes became more alert.

Bai Lu took a deep breath, telling himself to calm down and straighten up, looking at Yu Lan again.

Little white rabbit.
Pure and beautiful.
Mr Shao’s pheromones were also on him.

“Hey, what exactly is your relationship with Mr Shao? Are you a couple?” He asked unhappily.
Yu Lan was startled and shook his head. “…No.”

“Is that so,” said Bai Lu, rolling his eyes and deliberately looking elsewhere and sighing, “Why would a temporary mark be made if you not a couple, it would be misleading, right? Mr Shao’s family is counting on him to find a wife soon, get married and have kids, so if a blind date meets you and smells you, they’ll misunderstand that you have something with Mr Shao, right? Tch, after all, who would want their partner’s smell to remain on another person.”

t/n: catch these hands bitch

Yu Lan’s expression narrowed.

He looked at Bai Lu and asked, “So there is such a person?”

“What?” Bai Lu returned to his senses and raised his eyebrows, “I’m just saying what if!”

“Then what if Mr Shao was here right now?” Yu Lan calmly asked.

“You-” Being spoken back to made Bai Lu annoyed.

“I don’t even know what you’re trying to say.” Yu Lan finished speaking and held up his textbook, indicating his refusal to continue the conversation.

“Hey-” Bai Lu grimaced.

“Ah Lu, what are you doing?!” Teacher Bai’s voice of suspicion came from the kitchen. She opened the kitchen door and looked suspiciously at her brother. “Behave yourself and don’t disturb Yu Lan’s studies!”

Bai Lu, “…”
He returned to his room angrily.

Yu Lan glanced at his back.

This person also likes Mr Shao.

In the afternoon, Uncle Liu came to pick up Yu Lan. When they almost arrived at the villa, Yu Lan suddenly mumbled, “Why does Mr Shao take care of me so much?”

Yu Lan was certain that Mr Shao had no ulterior motives against him.
But why would you take care of a stranger without asking for anything in return?

Because he likes me?
Obviously not.

It was clear to Yu Lan that the man wasn’t someone who would take someone home the first time he saw them because he liked them.
The man was calm and sane and would never have developed those kinds of emotions.

In fact, Uncle Liu also didn’t know the main reason. He could realise that for Yu Lan, Mr Shao had something hidden in his heart that they didn’t know, but he thought about it and said, “Maybe it’s because he thinks of you as his younger brother?”

Yu Lan wondered, “Does Mr Shao have a younger brother?”

“Yes of course he does.” Remembering that younger brother, Uncle Liu’s expression was also subtle, but he didn’t talk too much about this topic, afraid that Yu Lan would think too much, and said, “You also don’t need to think too much. Mr Shao doing all this is to let you adapt to this kind of life as soon as possible, to live a normal life. You don’t have to think about it. Mr Shao won’t harm you. You just need to get well, learn and-”

“Grow up and become independent as soon as possible.” Yu Lan picked up on Uncle Liu’s words.

Uncle Liu felt as if something was wrong, but couldn’t say what was wrong, and hesitantly nodded. “Yes.”

Whatever Mr Shao’s reason was for bringing him home, his goal was to help Yu Lan grow and learn as quickly as possible.

Paying attention to his body was to help him, hiring him a teacher was to help him. Knowing he wasn’t used to being around other alphas, he chose to mark him temporarily to help him.

Mr Shaw didn’t like him, he just wanted to help him out.

The only way for him to stop causing trouble for Mr Shao is to grow up and become independent as soon as possible.

When the car stopped in front of the villa, the man smoking a cigarette in the corridor looked over. Yu Lan thought- it really was necessary to work a little harder to be able to take care of himself. At that time, he will also be able to leave the villa and will no longer… trouble Mr Shao.

*

By the time Song Ze arrived at the villa, half a month had officially passed.

The trafficker’s accomplices have been found, including the woman’s brother and siblings, in addition to the couple’s son.
They were intercepted during a transfer, with a total of over twenty omegas in their hand.
Next, the police plan to use their past dealings to find out the guys who have been involved in human trafficking one by one.

“Do you have friends there? Want to check it out?” Song Ze asked Yu Lan.
Yu Lan had just finished attaching the leash to Little Mars, and after thinking about it, he asked, “Have they… all settled in?”

Song Ze smiled and said, “Mhm. Like we said last time, we’ll get some social assistance agencies to help arrange it.”

Yulan lowered his head. “That’s good, but the rest… won’t be necessary.”

Every now and then for sixteen years, an omega would be sent away, or a new one would be imprisoned.
Some of them, Yu Lan had been with them for sixteen years.

But they weren’t friends with each other. After all, there’s no time to make friends when you’re worried every day about when you’re going to be sold.
Honestly, Yu Lan didn’t even remember the names or faces of some of them.

When Yu Lan said so, Song Ze naturally didn’t talk too much and only restrained his smile and whispered, “Sorry it took me so long to find you guys.”
Aside, Shao Mingyu’s tea-drinking motion also slowed down.

Not even remotely close to “finding”.
That time, it was the two traffickers who ran into them.

Yu Lan pursed his lips when he heard those words.

There were a lot of things he didn’t understand.
But he understood how big the universe was and it was entirely possible for people who have done bad things to escape the interstellar for the rest of their lives.
To be able to get out of the hands of those trafficker’s for the rest of his life, Yu Lan already feels lucky.
So he couldn’t… complain about the police.

He just wanted to be glad that he could be free.

So Yu Lan laughed and said, “No need to tell me that… I’m taking Little Mars out.”

Shao Ming-Yu spoke up, “It’s going to rain soon, come back early.”

“Ok.” Yu Lan complied and turned to leave.

In the meantime, after Yu Lan left, Shao Mingyu put down his teacup and said, “What did you find out.”

Song Ze leaned back against the back of the sofa, scratched his hair, took a deep breath, and said, “Finding their nest and seeing the environment Yu Lan had been living in for the past sixteen years, honestly, although I should have guessed it a long time ago, when I saw it with my own eyes, I still… couldn’t imagine how he had spent those sixteen years.”

Hearing this, Shao Mingyu tightened his hand.

Song Ze spoke in a complicated tone, “They were forced out from within our boundaries. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have gone down that road, and they wouldn’t have met you, which means all those years of hard work weren’t in vain.

“But still… it would’ve been nicer if it was earlier.”

Originally, to be able to find Yu Lan in this lifetime, he felt he was already lucky, but now still could not help but sigh.

Song Ze said, “I can’t tell you more about the specifics. You’ll have to come and see it yourself when it comes to the trial, but about Yu Lan’s memories-”

Yu Lan’s identity was confirmed after the blood test results came back and Shao Mingyu was not mistaken. The question as to why the information about Yu Lan’s childhood as stated by Yu Lan himself didn’t match what Shao Mingyu knew was also answered last week when Shao Mingyu rehired a doctor for Yu Lan while they found the trafficker’s den.

Song Ze slowly said, “This is a special case involving the health of these omegas, including Yu Lan. We didn’t tell them personally but instead informed the people currently in charge of taking care of them.”

It was thanks to the fact that both he and Shao Mingyu were cautious. When they first noticed that something was wrong, they didn’t reveal too much information to Yu Lan or ask too many questions, but simply waited for the results of the investigation.

The man lit a cigarette, his face as heavy as a waterway. “What the hell is going on?”

Outside the window, the clouds were piling up thickly and the sky was dark.
