LBRDI Chapter 70

Duke

Shen Mian instantly knew that she was talking about Xing Fei’s poem. He didn’t expect to meet Xing Fei’s little fangirl.

The little dragon cub lovingly touched the cover of the collection and owed a debt of gratitude to Shen Mian.

The little dragon cub finally left with the collection in her arms and because Shen Mian couldn’t see her parents, he followed her from a distance. He didn’t return to He Xing until she got into a private suspension car.

He Xing frowned slightly, thinking about something.

Shen Mian, “What’s wrong?”

He Xing, “I feel like that little dragon cub seemed a bit familiar, but I shouldn’t know her. I don’t even know a few of the mythical genus dragon cubs.”

Shen Mian saw the spinning spaceship slowly stop and as he walked over to pick up his little dragon cubs, he casually replied, “She probably looks like a dragon you know.”

He Xing pondered. “Maybe.”
Was this the little dragon cub of that comrade of his?

……

When He Xing went home, he hadn’t even remembered who that little dragon cub looked like and eventually forgot about it. The time spent with Shen Mian flew by and it was soon the end of November.

The Dragon God Festival was the grandest festival of the dragons, and by the end of November, the entire Imperial Star was already filled with a festive atmosphere. Less than ten days before the first day of the Dragon Festival, the royal family finally remembered that they had a good-looking and popular crown prince. The crown prince had one of the most popular anchors on Cat Eye by his side, so it was a perfect opportunity to bring the royal family closer to the people.

So Shen Mian was woken up by a sound coming from He Xing’s quantum computer. He picked it up and saw that it was a call request and a note from the housekeeper.

Shen Mian then realised that he was holding He Xing’s quantum computer, which He Xing had left in his room last night.

Shen Mian blocked the quantum computer’s speaker and patted Gian, who was woken up by the sound. The little gem dragon was just a little awake, and after being coaxed, he fell asleep again, still holding Shen Mian’s quantum computer in his paws.

Yan Tan was sleeping on his back on the bed. He could now maintain the human form for a long time, basically staying human form.

Last night, they called Lu Yuan and Rhein until 11 pm. Gian and Yan Tan fell asleep in Shen Mian’s room. Only Xing Fei finished the conversation and bounced out to look for a book.

Shen Mian didn’t carry Gian and Yan Tan back to their room, so he just let them sleep in his.

Shen Mian shuffled a little and walked out of the bedroom. He Xing was assembling a model in the living room, and the carpet was covered with the model parts. Livia and Xing Fei were holding the manual and sorting the parts while reading.

Livia was picked up by He Xing in the morning, and since Yan Tan hadn’t woken up yet, he put a model together with Xing Fei.

“Good morning, Dean.”

Xing Fei looked up from the pile of parts. “Dean.”

He had become a regular visitor to this villa now and was picked up by He Xing every day after tutoring the little dragon cub, but today, he came very early. Shen Mian shoved the quantum computer towards He Xing and asked Livia, “Don’t you need to tutor today?”

He Xing turned the quantum computer on and took it out to make a call.

Livia put down the parts. “This holiday’s tutoring lessons are over, and everyone is preparing for Dragon God Day. But recently, one of the parents still wanted me to go to his house and is willing to pay a lot of money for a tutoring lesson for his dragon cub this afternoon.”

Shen Mian took a box of nutrient solution out of the fridge. “Still tutoring at this time? Are you teaching “Dragon Genus”?”

Livia, “Flower arranging.”

Shen Mian, “?”
He remembered that Rhein’s previous childcare centre had a flower arranging course, but was there a need to tutor such a purely hobby-based course?

Xing Fei tilted her head in confusion. “Flower arranging?”
Although she loved flowers, apart from picking some flowers and putting them in a vase, she didn’t pick specific flowers to put them together as a hobby.

Livia explained, “I learned a little colour matching from Yan Tan, entered a little contest and won a prize.”

Yan Tan, who just woke up, stuck his head out of the bedroom. “It was a really big contest. He’s super awesome.”

Livia was a little embarrassed. “I also studied on my own for a long time because there was a bonus. Yan Tan helped me a lot.”

Xing Fei put two parts together. “But do they still have to get tutored on flower arranging during the Dragon God Festival?”
This kind of art course usually wasn’t’ counted in the grade, so was it necessary to tutor a class like flower arranging during such an important festival as Dragon God’s Day?

Gian and Yan Tan shuffled around and sat around the model parts after washing up. Yan Tan was surprised. “Yeah, I didn’t even have to take a combat class during the Dragon God Festival.”

Livia shook his head. “I’m not sure, it seems like they said they want to cultivate sentiment.”

Shen Mian didn’t quite understand what the parents were thinking. “I’ll send you over in the afternoon.”

Livia hesitated- he had already been picked up by the Crown Prince himself this morning, did he need to trouble the Dean to take him there in the afternoon?

Yan Tan just laid down on the carpet. “Then Dean, you and Livia have to come back quickly.”

Gian was still sleepy even after he’d washed up. He yawned and flopped on the carpet with Yan Tan. He was like a big golden-green jelly doll, his tail-tip comfortably wiggling in the morning sun.

Livia, “…”

Not only did the bad friend Yan Tan ask the Dean to send him, he even asked the dean to send him back.

For the first time, Livia felt that this heartless character of Yan Tan was quite a headache for the dragon. He could tell that Yan Tan was so relaxed because he completely treated this place as his home. Just like Gian and Xing Fei, he was part of this family.

Livia was very happy that his little friend reconciled with his father and had made new good friends.

Having the chance to get close to good elders like the Dean and His Highness was actually a lucky thing. Livia could only reply, “Alright. Thank you, Dean.”

Shen Mian, “No need to be so polite with me.”
He got up and went into the kitchen.

He Xing’s call had also ended and he moved beside Shen Mian. “Let’s go back to Fei Yun City in a few days.”

Shen Mian made the action of picking up a menu.

He Xing was pitiful. “They want to arrest me to record a video, saying that they want to be closer to the people and I told them…”

His Imperial Highness, the Crown Prince, was hesitant to continue and Shen Mian had to ask, “What did you say?”

He Xing slowly took a step back. “I said, then why don’t I take the dean back to live broadcast. Then I’m sure it’ll make the change bigger, not smaller. It’s called going east not west.”

Shen Mian, “…”

He Xing waited for a while, found that Shen Mian didn’t mean to be unhappy and leaned forward again, kissing the corner of Shen Mian’s mouth. He flirtatiously said, “Let’s go back together. I’ll beat up anyone who wants to go to my place to watch you and I promise not to annoy you.”

Shen Mian didn’t really have a problem with meeting the parents and was quiet for a while. “Let’s go back tomorrow.”

He Xing was quite happy. “Wait for a moment.”

Shen Mian, “?”

He Xing, “I’ll send a message to some of my cousins to tell them to send their dragon cubs over so you can play with them.”

Shen Mian, “??”

How come your cousins haven’t beaten you to death?

……

Shen Mian and He Xing sent Livia out in the afternoon.

The family that invited Livia were also nobles; they were not a dragon of the mythical genus, but their residence was pretty close to the nobles that Livia usually went to to tutor.

But this one wasn’t a four or five-story villa, it was a manor that encircled a large area.

He Xing’s suspension car stopped in front of the estate. “Is it this one?”

Livia nodded.

He Xing felt like his three views were going to crack. “Giving flower arrangement lessons to this family’s dragon cub?”
Big dragon He couldn’t help but ask again. “Flower arranging class?”

Shen Mian rarely saw this expression on He Xing’s face and was a bit puzzled. “Is this family’s dragon cub bad-tempered?”

He Xing didn’t even recognise Yan Tan before, but he knows this little dragon cub?

Livia frowned slightly. A little dragon cub with a bad temper would cause him a lot of trouble, especially if the other party was a noble. “Are they one of those very uncooperative cubs?”

He Xing’s wrist was resting on the operation panel, rubbing his eyebrows. “I’m not quite sure. I don’t actually know this family’s dragon cub. It’s just that this dragon cub’s identity is rather special. Her family is the only family in the empire to be crowned a duke as a non-mythical dragon.”

He Xing remembered that Livia had dreams of entering the military and deliberately explained, “The military doesn’t discriminate against races. But the mythical genus is indeed much stronger than other genera. This lets the mythical genus have an advantage in battle, so this leads to them being able to gain more merits, receive more rewards and have a higher rank.”

Shen Mian and Livia nodded.

Yan Tan, a ninety catty big baby, could grab a tree dragon who weighed three times his own weight, showing that the mythical genus was strong.

Shen Mian, “So what’s wrong with the dragon cub?”

He Xing, “The previous Duke was killed in battle. She was very young and left a dragon cub under the age of ten. The Empire, in an effort to stabilize the Duke’s family and succession, allowed the underage dragon cub to inherit the title and a very grand ceremony was held.”

He Xing shrugged. “My mother occasionally talked to me about the little duke, saying that this little dragon cub was very much like her mother, a precocious and quite decisive little dragon cub, so I can’t imagine what she’s getting flower arranging tutoring near the upcoming holidays for.”

In other words, Livia was now going to tutor the young duke.

Instead of being alarmed by the other’s identity, Livia thought about it carefully and replied, “It wasn’t the young duke who came to see me. I was tutoring at the last house when a male alpha came to visit and chatted with me. After learning that I had some skills in flower arranging, he wanted me to tutor his family’s dragon cubs.”

He Xing frowned in thought. “The Duke’s father seemed to be from a more distant planet. His name is Ke Yu. I don’t remember much about him. I guess I’m overthinking it, it is quite common to get tutoring for a child…” But at this time of the year, it was strange in itself to have a small dragon cub instead of a more famous adult dragon to tutor.

The Duke wanted to learn flower arranging, but what kind of teacher coudn’t they find?

Shen Mian also thought of this. He looked at the time and asked Livia, “Is it okay if I accompany you in?”

Livia nodded. “I’ve troubled the dean.”

Shen Mian got out of the car and accompanied Livia to the Duke’s mansion.

The Duke’s mansion was magnificent, with vines climbing up the walls. The entire manor appeared ancient and stately. Shen Mian rang the doorbell, and after a few minutes, the door opened. A dragon smiled and asked, “What can I do for you?”

Livia, “I’m Livia. I’m here at Mr Ke Yu’s invitation to discuss the tutoring.”

The dragons opened the door fully. “So it’s Mr Livia. Sir has already specifically told us. And this is?”

Shen Mian bowed slightly. “Shen Mian. I took the liberty of coming here mainly to hold some equipment for Livia that he can’t hold.”
Livia had prepared a few flowers that might be used in teaching, as well as books used for self-learning flower arranging. There were still quite a lot of them and of course, Livia couldn’t take them all in by himself.

The dragon smiled. “Alright, please come in.”
It’s actually quite normal for parents to watch if they feel uncomfortable having underage cubs come to tutor.

He led Shen Mian and Livia into the manor through the beautiful front yard garden and into the heated flower room. An adult dragon was already waiting in the flower room. He was about the same height as Shen Mian and very gentle looking. He was very happy to see Livia and greeted them.

“This is great. I was worried that you wouldn’t come today.”

Livia smiled his exclusive business smile. “Good morning Mr Ke Yu. This is my elder who sent me over and will help me pick up some equipment that I might need for my class.”

Ke Yu didn’t know Shen Mian. He nodded at Shen Mian and then invited Shen Mian and Livia to sit down. The table already had some scented tea brewed on it. “I’ve asked someone to call my daughter. She’ll be eight years old after the Dragon God Festival. She shares her mother’s last name, her name is Qin Yi.”

Livia was about to speak when the door to the flower room was pushed open again.

A small dragon cub in human form walked in quickly, all the way through the blooming flowers, not stopping for the flowers.

She had long blonde hair, a pair of white horns on her head and a snowy white complexion. She was a little taller than Livia and had beautiful eyebrows, even seeming a little bit like a hybrid. The young duke stood in front of the flowers in a loose training outfit, suppressing the springtime scent of blooming flowers with her own strength.

The young duke raised the metal sword in her hand and tossed it to the adult dragon behind her. The other took it with both hands and sheathed it.

Shen Mian was internally surprised- this was the little girl he had seen at the amusement park that day. But he was wearing a mask that day, so the little girl should not recognize him.

The young duke’s gaze fell on Shen Mian, looking at him closely for a moment, then she smiled, her eyebrows slightly arched.

She slightly bowed towards Shen Mian. “I know you.”

“You’re Xing Fei’s Dean.”
