LBRDI Chapter 28

He’s like a gem

Yan Tan clung to the tree trunk, his large black eyes filled with fear and confusion.

He does like shiny things. The first time he saw Shen Mian, he felt there was a light in the dean’s eyes, so when he was picked up, he neither panicked nor ran away.

But it doesn’t mean that as long as it’s shiny Yan Tan will like it. He is an aesthetic little dragon cub, of course, but he does not like this eye-catching colour scheme.

Yan Zhou thought it was because the dress wasn’t cool enough, thought back to the product description and silently pressed the sequined dragon cub’s nose.

That nose was actually a switch. After pressing it, the small lights in the red sequins started to flash.

Yan Tan sniffed and was about to cry from the ugliness.

But he seldom refused Yan Zhou and even when he was forced to do something, he doesn’t dare to refuse Yan Zhou, so he tearfully accepted the gift.

Yan Zhou hesitantly tried to hold Yan Tan’s paws, however, little Yan Tan mistakenly thought that Yan Zhou disliked his slow movement. Frightened, he fluttered his wings hugging the box and flew to his two companions.

Yan Zhou’s empty hand slowly clenched. The physical distance between him and Yan Tan is clearly no more than ten metres but in actuality, he was years away. He finally realised that he was far from his child.

He Xing gently put his hand on Shen Mian’s shoulder, “Do you think what Yan Zhou did was useful?”

Shen Mian’s shoulders were heavy, his personality was cold. Even during the apocalypse, people who had been with him for a few years rarely would dare to come up to him and hook around his shoulders. But this feeling is not bad. Shen Mian let him stay on his shoulders, “Do you think Yan Tan’s expression looked like he was moved?”

“This Yan Zhou, he doesn’t understand Yan Tan at all, he thinks that Yan Tan is just awkward around him. Do you know what Yan Tan asked me in the morning?”

He Xing blinked, “What?”

Shen Mian, “He asked me how to tell Livia that his dad wants to adopt him.”

He Xing was shocked, “Yan Tan was serious?”

He thought that Yan Tan saying that giving Yan Zhou another cub was just something said out of anger.

Shen Mian glanced at him, “Yan Zhou should be thankful that most dragon cubs now don’t have quantum computer’s. If Yan Tan wanted to contact Livia, he would still have to ask us to borrow our quantum computer’s, otherwise, he would’ve already told Livia about this matter.”

In addition, from what Yan Tan had said that day, Livia’s parents shouldn’t be here anymore. A cub without a quantum computer and far away from the Imperial Star is really hard to reach.

He Xing, “Tragic, this is too tragic. But we can’t go on like this. Can we give Yan Zhou a push?”

Shen Mian sneered, “What’s the matter? You don’t want the dragons under your command to suffer?”

He Xing laughed, “What do you mean, what does it have to do with me if he’s from the third legion, Yan Zhou is my lieutenant general. I just kind of… felt sorry for him. Yan Zhou isn’t a good father, but he is a good general. You see, in our line of work, who doesn’t owe a debt to their family?”

Shen Mian was silent for a moment, his heart slightly poked.

He Xing’s fingers touched Shen Mian’s hair, he secretly glanced at Shen Mian and seeing that Shen Mian was distracted and didn’t notice him, he couldn’t resist poking it a few times.

Shen Mian held He Xing’s wrist and squeezed this tricky dragon onto the tree, “You don’t want your hand anymore?”

“Oh yeah,” He Xing turned his head, “How come you didn’t use your abilities just then.”

Shen Mian held the hilt of the grid bucket knife. The silver mana poured down from his fingers and the place where the mana flowed through seemed like it was swallowed up and completely disappeared.

The grid bucket knife vanished into thin air in his hands.

He Xing, “…”

He knew many abilities that humans had and knew a bit about them. Shen Mian clearly had some sort of contact type ability, which can disassemble touched objects into small particles and disperse them.

Shen Mian didn’t even have a little dust on his hand, “In private training, I should have a lot in common with Yan Tan in having abilities that can’t be used.”

Despite saying that, Shen Mian warned He Xing, “You’re not allowed to talk about this in front of Gian and the others.”

He Xing froze for a moment, then smiled, “Okay.”

Such an indifferent person is actually worried that his abilities will scare the dragon cubs.

……

Accidents always come sooner than planned.

The thing that caught Shen Mian off guard was that Livia actually sent a call request over from the Imperial Star, dialling from Yan Huan’s quantum computer.

When Yan Tan left the Imperial Star, he asked his little uncle to leave his contact information so that even if Yan Tan was not at home, Livia could still contact Yan Tan when he had time.

Yan Huan placed the quantum computer on the table and looked at the three characters “Livia” on the quantum computer. The three dragons and one person in the room fell silent at the same time, the quantum computer was still persistently buzzing and vibrating.

“… What are you staring for? You don’t let Yan Tan talk to his own friends either?”

Shen Mian spoke coldly.

Yan Huan sighed and took his quantum computer to find Yan Tan, Yan Zhou was right on his heels and followed. Shen Mian also stood up. Of course, He Xing had to stick to Dean Shen, hanging onto Shen Mian like a tail.

Yan Tan was lying with Gian and Lu Yuan to study the interstellar map in the dormitory. When Yan Huan walked in, Yan Tan looked up, “Little uncle?”

Yan Huan handed the non-stop vibrating quantum computer to Yan Tan, “It’s Livia.”

Yan Tan sat up with a flap of his wings and pulled Gian and Lu Yuan into a sitting position, quickly tapped on the quantum computer to connect the call.

Gian and Lu Yuan huddled together and looked at each other, both curious – Yan Tan was bound to mention Livia once in ten sentences, so both Gian and Lu Yuan were curious about Livia.

A light screen popped up from the quantum computer, but it wasn’t a little dragon cub that appeared on the screen, but a thin boy with a clear face and cold expression wearing a simple black top with a red dragon cub on his chest. It was a cute version of the phosphorus dragon, holding a bag that was bigger than himself. The soft and cute pattern oddly melted away the boy’s coldness, making him seem a little younger than he was.

The backdrop behind him was the streets, apparently, he called using a public facility.

“Livia,” Yan Tan’s tail couldn’t help but gently pat the carpet. “You finally called me. How have you been recently? Have they bullied you?”

Livia looked at Yan Tan and smiled, “They haven’t. I have recently made some money. Have you made new friends in a new place?”

“Yes, yes, yes,” Yan Tan dragged Gian and Lu Yuan over and introduced them to Livia one by one, “This is Lu Yuan and this is Gian, both of them are awesome! Lu Yuan will fly a starship in the future and Gian is a gem dragon, he really does look like a cut gem! And he can score over 110 points on every test! He’s an omnipotent dragon cub just like you!”

The omnipotent dragon cub- Gian raised his paws to cover his face, “No, no, I just recite a lot of books.”

Yan Huan, “This is Livia. He is the same age as me, but he can already maintain his human form. He’s smart, has great combat skills and good grades. The teacher said that if he can pass the test, he can go directly to elementary school without having to go to a childcare centre.”

Livia bent over and pulled out a red notice, “I’m here to tell you about this today. I’ve just passed the test, so I don’t have to take the courses in kindergarten again. I have a lot of time to spare, but it’s a shame you’re not on the Imperial Star, or I could’ve come to you after I’ve finished class.”

Yan Tan sniffed, his voice already had a little crying tone, “That’s great, there are professional combat classes in elementary school, so you don’t have to go to that combat class anymore.”

Gian carefully handed him a tissue and Yan Tan wiped his eyes, dropping his head in a little embarrassment, “I’m not as amazing as you, I’m slower than you in entering primary school.”

“You’re amazing,” Livia glanced down at the red dragon cub on his chest, “You see, I can’t draw this beautifully. This is the shirt I wore to my test today and the principal said my shirt was so cute I wanted to buy one for his kids.”

“Really?! Did he say my shirt was cute?”

Yan Tan leaned over towards the light screen.

Livia leaned over as well, the collar falling down a bit to reveal a patch of bruised skin, which Livia quickly pulled up the collar over to hide it.

“It’s true. Each time I wear this shirt, I feel like you are by my side,” Livia’s eyes closed slightly, his thick lashes dropping and his gaze was oddly soft,

“I’m a little tired today. Can I listen to talk?”

Yan Tan thought for a bit, “What should I say… What about singing a song?”

He cleared his throat and slowly hummed out a tune that eventually had lyrics, but not in the interstellar common language. The endings of each word trailed on softly and were long, lingering around the ear.

With such a small, untrained dragon cub, the pitch and breath weren’t exactly great, but every lyric was warm and heartfelt.

Lu Yuan laid on top of Gian for a moment and listened, whispering, “It’s nice.”

Gian sat quietly beside Yan Tan. He was an extremely attentive and patient dragon cub, the only one of the three to notice the injuries on Livia’s body.

He tilted his head and softly said, “He’s really good looking.”

Lu Yuan, “Livia? His human form looks a bit like the dean.”

Gian shook his head, “It’s Yan Tan. He shines like a gem.”

Lu Yuan tilted his head, somewhat confused.

Shen Mian had never heard such language before, but it didn’t prevent him from perceiving Yan Tan’s mood from ups and downs in the rhythm. Yan Tan is a powerful transmitter of emotion, to the ear as much as to the heart.

Yan Huan was bewildered, “Yan Tan actually knows how to sing… I thought our family had no connection to performing arts in this life, Yan Tan really did inherit sister-in-law’s excellent genes.”

Shen Mian, “Every child is different. Are you the same as Yan Zhou?”

He Xing: “Every time I see this scene, I feel like I’m still somewhat useful after all these years.”

Shen Mian turned around and looked at him.

He Xing smiled, “That’s the whole point of me wearing a military uniform.”

You guys are the reason I’m invincible.

He Xing patted Yan Zhou, “This should also be the meaning of your generalship, don’t let yourself, the one in charge of guarding it, destroy it in turn.”

“You’ve done this before.”

Since there are dragons that are in charge of being unbreakable, please let the dragon cubs be as innocent and soft to their heart’s content.

Yan Tan finished the song, wagged his tail and said, “Livia, I’ve found what I want to do too.”

Livia thought he was going to say he was going to be an artist, but the dragon cub opened his mouth and blurted out, “I want to conquer the sea of stars!”

Shen Mian: “…”

No, this isn’t your dream. You are just being fooled by Lu Yuan.

It makes me laugh so much how Lu Yuan’s business prowess really comes to the fore selling his dream to all his buddies (*˘︶˘*).。*♡ my dream is best dream!

  5. Its true though. Livia feels like our MC. Cold but gentle, expressionless and studies hard. Both were excluded in school. Both are geniuses ( school bully).
