LBRDI Chapter 17

Examination

The robot that He Xing bought was named “Conqueror” by the two dragon cubs. In just one day, the monster that they didn’t know where it came from was promoted to being a good friend of the dragon cubs- the kind that gets a beating twice a day.

The six or seven-year-old dragon cubs were energetic, playful and looked up towards the valiant elders. Although the two dragon cubs didn’t say anything, they still hoped to one day be able to hold the Conqueror as easily as Shen Mian or He Xing.

This was certainly not an easy task. Shen Mian and He Xing both have force values that have been honed through countless life-and-death battles, battles that have been nailed into their flesh and bones with countless wounds and instinct. Fused as one, they become a killing machine forged of flesh and blood when necessary.

But that kind of protective gesture planted seeds of longing in the hearts of the two dragon cubs – “One day, I want to be like that.”

This desire urged the two dragon cubs to toss the Conqueror hard.

As Shen Mian passed by the clearing with his needle and thread box, a blazing line of fire rushed past the Conqueror, but unfortunately, the fuel ran low and went out halfway to the conqueror.

Gian rubbed his stomach and hiccupped with one hand over his mouth, letting out a small ring of black smoke and choking himself into a coughing fit.

The Conqueror continued to walk over to the two dragon cubs and Lu Yuan sped up and rammed into the Conqueror. The spotted dragon, whose weight hovered at two hundred pounds, touched the Conqueror and knocked him over.

Lu Yuan rushed to Gian, his thick paw pad gently patting Gian’s back.

Gian shook his head, “I’m fine.”

Shen Mian looked at them for a while, then took out his quantum computer to search for sparring robots in the virtual mall and selected a product with the same picture as the Conqueror in the options that jumped out.

Product description:  Professional young dragon combat sparring, adjustable in three gears, safe and guaranteed, long service life, the best choice to consume the dragon cub’s energy!

He scrolled down and looked at the price, 96 000 in total.

Shen Mian, “…….. ” How long will it take to pay this back?

He Xing, that bastard, also said that the gadget was customized.

Life is difficult, the hard-earned money saved up was actually not enough to pay him back.

Shen Mian had the urge to kill He Xing.

The vast majority of spacial ability users, whether they are in charge of exporting or assisting, are a bit hamster-like- They like to store everything and anything and their collections are very strange. However, he didn’t have a squirrel brain. Shen Mian had many treasures in his space, but his space exploded when his body changed.

Shen Mian counted his own deposits thinking that he should just get rid of He Xing someday.

He Xing, who was contacting with his sworn followers, shuddered hard.

……

Shen Mian teaches very quickly. He completed a unit in two weeks and he planned to create an examination paper to see how the two dragon cubs’ learning was going.

Qiming Childcare Centre, like all other childcare centres, only taught cultural lessons in the morning and the entire afternoon was free time. Since Qiming had no other equipment, the dragon cubs could only play (fight) with the Conqueror or go back to the dorms and lie down on a map of the galaxy and identify the planets on it one by one.

When the first unit was completed, Shen Mian picked a place with similar brightness to prepare the examination paper and the two dragon cubs were being chased by the Conqueror in the open space.

He had never produced a paper before, but he had looked up various sample papers online before preparing for the lesson and knew the key points of each course like the back of his hand. Those key points were what the dragon cubs had to know to survive in society anyway.

Shen Mian pulled out a few sheets of paper, looking through the textbook while reading the sample paper’s questions. Several questions had already been written in the interstellar common language on the paper at hand, his sharp handwriting reflecting his personality1.

Shen Mian wrote the next question, suddenly stopped writing and turned around. He Xing, who came over, smiled at him.

The young marshal was bright and dazzling when he was not in uniform, just like a big boy in his early twenties, only revealing the sharp military bayonet between actions.

Shen Mian’s fingers moved slightly and the pen spun twice between his fingers.

He Xing stopped and looked at the open space, squinting, “It’s a good day today.”

“The summer sun is certainly nice,” Shen Mian squeezed his pencil and looked down at his textbook again, “What can I do for you?”

He Xing slowly paced beside him, “Just wanted to come to get some sun.”

Shen Mian, “Then bask.”

He Xing was a little sleepy from the sun and pulled out the chair that Shen Mian had prepared for the two dragon cubs, sat next to Shen Mian and laid down on the table.

Shen Mian, “… Go to the roof to bask.”

“No.”

He Xing refused.

“Why?”

He Xing smiled and said, “I’m clingy.”

Shen Mian, “…”

……

Shen Mian spent an afternoon compiling a sample paper and set the exam time after checking that it was correct.

The two dragon cubs had no problem with the exam, Lu Yuan even jumped at the chance to try.

Lu Yuan’s attitude to learning was much more proper than when he first came to the centre, he is willing to listen in class and doesn’t touch his starry sea cards under his desk.

Gian was already a little dragon cub who liked to study, so Shen Mian wasn’t even worried about Gian failing the exam.

On the day of the exam, not long after Shen Mian handed out the paper, Gian was still doing the multiple-choice questions and Lu Yuan had already begun to diligently write the final big question.

Lu Yuan wrote too seriously so Shen Mian couldn’t help but walk over to see what Lu Yuan wrote, thought about it, then stopped: Forget it, I shouldn’t give Lu Yuan too much pressure and Lu Yuan writing his own ideas is a good thing.

What Shen Mian produced was a very simple paper; in addition to a unit of knowledge, there was also a reading question.

The so-called reading question was actually similar to the paper in ideology class. It gives a question and asks the dragon cubs to answer and to explain their reason for this answer.

These three-view questions2 were usually trivial ones like “What should I do if a dragon cub falls down?” or “What should I do if I find out my classmates are being bullied?”. It’s almost impossible for a dragon cub to lose too many points on a question like this because there’s really no reason to lose points on it and they can all pass easily under normal circumstances.

This was what Shen Mian thought when he collected the papers and prepared to correct them, and he still thought so even after he finished marking Gian and Lu Yuan’s multiple-choice questions.

Until he turned the exam paper over and saw Lu Yuan’s three-view question.

The question asked was: What do you do when you find a sum of money on the road?

Gian’s answer was a representation of a good child: Pick it up and send it to the nearest police station. His reasoning was very normal, the writing was quite good with a child-like charm.

Lu Yuan’s answer was wrong!

Such a simple question and he actually divided it into several scenarios!

First case: Less than or equal to ten-star coins.

Second case: Greater than or equal to ten star coins, less than or equal to fifty star coins.

Third case: …

There were also more cases under each amount based on the planet, such as picking up less than or equal to ten star coins on a poor planet, or on a developed planet… A whole page was written, densely packed with dog-crawling characters that were separated with each stroke.

Not only did Lu Yuan give different answers for each situation, but he also ended with a clichéd, twisted line: The dean taught us that there is not only one principle that applies to any situation.

Dean Shen, ” …”

When Shen Mian finished reading, he didn’t grade it but held the exam paper and maintained his position without moving.

He Xing had just finished a conversation outside and when he came in, he saw Dean Shen stiffening at the table and hesitantly patted him.

“What’s wrong? Where’s the discomfort?”

It took a while for Shen Mian to respond, “No, there is none.”

He Xing, “??”

Shen Mian, “I’ll stick to my own three views.”

He Xing, “???”

  1. 字迹笔锋逼人,带着破纸而出的凌厉 (Zìjì bǐfēng bī rén, dàizhe pò zhǐ ér chū de línglì) – lol I had to ask my parents for this one. The sentence basically said that Shen Mian was writing very strongly, meaning that his personality was also very strong.
  2. Pretty sure the three views are Confucianism, Taoism, and Legalism or something. Something to do with Chinese philosophy.

By milk candy, think of the White Rabbit milk candy. I grew up on it and still love it. Really recommend you try it out.

  1. I grew up on white rabbit too. I used to be fond of it, but my taste changed. I still like how it smells though.
